Our first official meeting with our lawyer.

    Hello,

We made an appointment for the 4th of June with the our lawyer to begin pre planning our Chapter 7. The retainer is at least $100 and will be applied to the $1995.00 which includes filing fee, credit counseling and credit reports. Those of you who have gone through this already what could we do to prepare ourselves for this initial meeting? We want to utilize their expertise as efficiently as possible. Maybe we should wait for the lawyer to tell us what to do but with all the information gathered here we feel to that we should take some initiative with the process.

    Thanks

Here's an explanation of how to interview lawyers and what to bring to your initial consultation meeting - http://www.moranlaw.net/interview.html

Here's a list of questions to ask every bk lawyer you meet with - http://www./2007/12/17/ten-questions...ptcy-attorney/ (I'm having trouble getting this link to paste correctly so if this link doesn't work, go up to your To box in your internet browser and after www., insert bankruptcylawnetwork dot com. Leave the rest of the line as-is and be sure not to add any extra spaces.)

I hope you are planning to meet with more than one bk lawyer. A large majority of bk lawyers charge nothing for an initial consultation. We recommend meeting with at least 3-4 before settling on one. You will learn a great deal about what's going to be possible when you file and where any potential problem areas with your filing might be. Good luck!

    Hope this helps!

      lrprn,

Thanks for the info. We did meet with several lawyers before choosing this one. I wrote about it in a previous post. So far so good...twice I e-mailed her with questions and she or her staff responded soon after.

      Thanks again
