No History of Checks Ordered on Chexsystem

Until reading this board I had never known about 'Chexsystem'.

Well, last week I requested a report from them on both, myself & spouse.

Was surprised that the ONLY thing (other than listing the orign of the State where SS was first listed) on both reports was an inquiry from 'LINK2CELL' on behalf of 'DISCOVER FINANCIAL SERVICES'. (have never heard of 'Link2Cell' before...)

What 'blew me away' was the fact that other then the above, each report stated 'No Information Found' as to:

    REPORTED INFORMATION
    INQUIRIES INITIATED BY CONSUMER ACTION
    RETAIL INFORMATION
    HISTORY OF CHECKS ORDERED

You all my be interested in knowing that my wife and I have be 'around' for a while, that a couple years back I even had a checking account at BOA.

That in addition both, my spouse and I, have had several checking accounts with the various banking institutions, and that we certainly have ordered our share of checks (wife still does, I quit about 8mths ago...)

I am not complaining about the lack of reporting...quite the opposite...just wanted you to know that obviously very few banks are reporting to 'Chexsystem'...???

JUST WISHED MY CREDIT REPORT WOULD LOOK LIKE THIS TOO

Actually, they do. I bet that you haven't bounced many if any checks have you?

I have NEVER bounced a check, however my 'dear' spouse, a gambler, has bounced more checks than you can shake a stick at (...so to speak...)

I agree with Frogger - most banks do use and report to ChexSystems as do the largest of the check printers.

One reason you don't see new account entries in the INQUIRIES INITIATED BY CONSUMER ACTION section is that those inquiries are only visible from 90 days up to three years. The oldest account opening I saw was two years old on my report. Also, the bank only reports to ChexSystems the first time you open an account in most cases. So opening later multiple accounts will not appear in this section. And some banks will report a new account opening to one of the credit reporting agencies as a hard pull, instead of ChexSystems. That is even worse for your privacy.

In the HISTORY OF CHECKS ORDERED section, checks ordered for the past three years are reported. Two of the largest check printers, Deluxe Corporation and Harland Check Printing do report. You may find some smaller printers that do not. I have seven entries under 'checks ordered' for four different banks for example, going back to 2007.

Do not assume you are not in ChexSystems because you have never bounced a check. I have never bounced a check in my life, or have been in any trouble with any bank in my life, and my checking history is all over ChexSystems for the past 3 years.

The only way to know what is on your report is to order a free report on the web. It takes about a week to get the report mailed back.

Please note that I DID order the report & so did my spouse. The reason I posted was because I was very surprised that nothing showed up...nothing, period (other then what I stated in original post)....not even for my notorious check bouncing spouse.....

I did note that, but we are all responding to your comment that "I just wanted you to know that obviously very few banks are reporting to 'Chexsystem'...???"

That is simply wrong. You can't draw a general conclusion based one or two reports. And your wife's "bounced" checks would not show up on ChexSystems unless she never covered them with the bank and/or the payee. Overdrawing an account by writing a check does not trigger a ChexSystems report. Only if you are a deadbeat that writes bad checks, and the banks and the check payee gets to eat the loss will they report you. Bad check writing is a felony. Since your wife is not sitting in jail, I figure she covered the checks and overdrawn account.

              You're both right :-)

ALL the banks I've opened accounts with in the past 3 years appear in the inquiries section, which would be a tipoff for a judgment creditor to look there.
Only Wells Fargo reported check printing.
I incurred a couple of NSF ACH's with BofA prior to chapter 13 thanks to paypal which I did not pay and they didn't report. The bank didn't pay paypal either, so the only loss was their "fee" income.
Casino markers (which are processed like checks) also don't report to Chexsystems.

I suspect Chexsystems must not give up information to non-bankers very easily, otherwise the casino collection lawyers would be all over them.

They actually seem to find Verizon a more pliable source for customer payment account information. (the lawyers, I mean).
filed chapter 13..confirmed...converted to chapter 7...DISCHARGED!

They don't "give" the info up, but it is for sale! If you're in the financial business, it is relatively easy to purchase, but you do have to jump thru the hoops to get set up.

and where can one find this chex system exactly? I googled it but a ton of sites came up... ??

So, if you've never bounced a check or anything bad, you wouldnt have an account notification on it, is that what I'm understanding - or is it just if you've ever had any checking account regardless of good/bad?

                  Thanks

Back up about 7 posts and you'll see I provided you with a direct link to the ChexSystems free report request page.

And as said before, you can be the cleanest banking customer in the world, and you will STILL likely show up in ChexSystems.
