We went with someone DH knows but I am disappointed (we haven't filed yet., have issues with house appraisal that she really messed up on) She gave us a great first consult but since then I am unimpressed. Can anyone recommend someone they like for a 7 in NJ?

Before I was considering BK, I went to credit counseling. The credit counselor told me I needed to consider BK and gave me a list of local attorneys. I called and/or met with three or four of them and was incredibly disappointed. Some never called me back, even after several attempts, the rest seemed like used car salesmen - completely detached, unpersonalized, etc. Some couldn't even schedule me for a consult for any earlier than six weeks out. I was so disappointed, in fact, that for two more years, I assumed BK wasn't an option for me.

When I realized I no longer had any options, I called another branch of the same counseling service (in a better part of town for all things financially related) and asked for their list. I researched a few of the attorneys I was interested in online and called my top pick. She got me in for a consult within a few days, sent me a packet to fill out and bring to my consult, spent an hour with me and completely went over every detail and answered every question. I picked her and never looked back. Her office assistants and paralegals were always available for questions, she accepted payments for her fee and I wish I'd found her sooner!

I emailed one of my other attorneys and asked him if he handled bankruptcies. He told me no, he didn't, but recommended the one I wound up using. He seemed to know what he was talking about and had reasonable fees, so I went with him. I'm satisfied.

I went to the yellow pages and picked a BK lawyer with the smallest add. I went for a consult and was sold. Later while reading over some of the decisions made by the Judge I came across specific case law that was written by my attorney. I knew I had a good one. My advice is to go to your BK district website and read the Judges decisions and see who won and who represented them.

Camden court .njb.uscourts.gov/dw/genInfo/contactInfoStaffDir.html Go to Judges nfo, then click opinions, pick a Judge, click a year and open the case. Lawyers are listed at the top of the petition and you can read down to see if it pertains to you or choose another. Hope this helps.

I got many references and I feel it is always better to get some from attorney as they know much better about all the things and getting advice form them will be much better.

I just searched the internet and called them. I was scheduled for a free consultation and I retained a lawyer for $100. I signed up for payments but I found out that they will not file my case unless I have fully paid them which I calculated to be in six months. After a month I paid the balance and was given a discount.

This is not a tough task to find the attorney for the bankruptcy, you can search through the local area or through the internet. Your decision to choose the attorney plays very important role in to overcome from your financial problem. Chapter 11 and chapter 13 bankruptcy is not to do yourself task.

First I went through the yellow pages and found a couple of attorneys who's ad I liked and created a list. Then using the info from the yellow pages, I searched the names on my list through google which helped narrow the list down a little more. Then I made appointments and interview the remaining candidates.

                                My attorney found me LOL.

Things happened fast. One of my creditors went and got a judgment against me. This being public record . . I assume some BK attorneys go sniffing around for leads . . . Thus, I suddenly got some pamphlet in the mail from a BK attorney about 5 hours from me. I was not going to use him - but it really got me thinking.

I put some inquiries to local BK attorneys, but they seemed very cold. No return phone calls, or a very "stand offish" secretary that acted as if callers were prisoners lol.

So, I decided to call the attorney who sent me the pamphlet - and they seemed very nice and offered lots of information. I googled them for reviews and they had a decent track record, from what I read.

We handled most of the documents via FedEx. They filed immediately after I made the very modest down payment to cover court fees and filing (The rest of the bill would be included in the BK).

They were super nice the entire time. The attorney came to the local court for the "meeting of creditors" . . and poof it was up hill since then. Up hill because of the 5 year struggle that comes with a bk13.

Overall, I am very glad they found me ahaha. They were very reasonably priced and worked out very well.
