Question about medical expenses in your budget...

Can you claim what you actually have averaged per month over the last year--even if it "seems" high? As long as it's necessary medical of course and not botox, cosmetic surgery etc...

It looks as though our medical may average $200/mo.

I can back it up with receipts for medication, co-pays etc....

I don't think that number would raise any eyebrows, plus you can easily substantiate it. I would expect you're good to go. My medical expenses are significantly higher than yours and like you I'm sweating it for my 341 next week but also like you, I too can prove it.

We haven't filed yet. In the process of getting our ducks in a row. I just don't want any surprises.

My doctor, who I've been with for almost 7 yrs, is now getting kind of "test happy". I foresee us having some extra medical expenses over the course of the next few months , which will obviously make the "average" go up.

I didn't know how picky trustees were about medical----if they nitpicked and questioned expenses to the point where you'd have to cut other areas to keep higher medical expenses.

The "guidelines" say $60 for out of pocket expenses per person in the household correct?

I swear the stress is coming at me from all directions these days.

The means test allows $60 per person on one line, but, further down on the form, there is a place to add your expenses in excess of that amount that are reasonably necessary.

We plan to file in near future and since we had some money to use before the filing date I visited the dentist to see if I needed any work. It’s been over a year since my last visit (no money), so I figure I needed at least a cleaning. Turns out I need a couple of root canals, two crowns, and one small cavity to fill. I know when money is short the dentist visits are stretched out, but the doc said if I had visited earlier I might not have to go through the root canals and crowns.

So, just curious, the total will be about $3,500 paid out within three weeks as each procedure is done, do you think that will be an issue with the trustee? I kept all receipts.

I submitted my medical and prescription claims statements for the past year during my 13. Even though after insurance it was only about 5 grand, I'm sure it helped a lot. I'm not sure under what circumstances they'd try to "drill" down on your claims.
