    Question about checking account

I am going to be filing very soon and I want to know if my being on my daughters checking account is going to be an issue. It's not my account and I am only a signer. I haven't had a checking account of my own for some time due to credit issues.
    Thanks in advance.......
I'm in California BTW, filing chapter 7

If you are only an authorized signor and have no interest in the account, it shouldn't be a problem. But, make sure that it isn't a joint account. It's not uncommon for somebody who is a joint account holder to think they are only an authorized signor. If your social security number is associated with the account, you should be careful.

Even if it is a joint account, it wouldn't be an issue if you can exempt the balance on the date you file AND you don't have any loan or credit accounts with the same bank.

$143,000 in debt discharged for $36,500, including attorneys fees. Money well spent!

while i lived in florida, my girlfriend opened a checking acct, and put me on as a authorized signer only...when my judgment finally came there to haunt me i went to the bank and asked if there could be problems..she said yes...so friend closed acct and reopened another one with me as a power of attorney. bank then said there would be no problems with judgment issue....

I don't know if there is any difference between banks in CA versa FL, but here in FL I know from first hand experience that anytime a person has 'signature rights' they are part of that account....period ! I experienced it first hand on an account that my wife has with a large bank around here. For one thing they took down my Social Security number along with a signature card....

Ok, that is at least how it is was for me, and I certainly would ask my daughter to take my name off the account....by the way, that too would require my signature around here.

In your case, since you'll be filing soon, it's probably best to leave things alone at this point. However, I certainly would check this issue out with my attorney....
