Hi there---scorpion35---here are some cardinal rules---
1.Make sure you put a minimum of 90 days between the time
you last use a credit card---and the time that you file BK.
2.Make sure that you don't take a cash advance from a CC
within 70 days of filing.
3.Stop paying your unsecured debt.
4.Take either a mental or physical inventory of what you
own---house/furniture/general possessions---and what you're
name is on---again a house/car/truck/other vehicles/boat/other property.
This will help you at least know what you own---and what can be exempted.
Start trying to live by a budget. Expect to spend reasonable amounts each month - which may mean cutting back in some areas and being more practical. No one expects you to live on $100 per month for food, but eating out 5x a week is not going to work.
Gather information on your income, debts. Keep copies of all check stubs - your attorney will need them for the entire 6 months before you file.
Do not give away your possessions, or attempt to sell them to family/friends for less than what they are worth. If you do sell something, get the best price you can for it and document the transaction & its value.
Get mortgage modified: DONE!7 months of back interest payments amortized, payment reduced over $200/mo (In the 'planning' stage, to file ch. 13 if/when we have to.)
