    Filing Bankruptcy - newbee here

    Please help. need your advice.

I moved from Arizona 2 years ago. I had no job and moved back with my family here. I am was in debt from 5 Credit Cards. When I was in college I had no control. Now that I am more mature and a little bit more responsible. I would like to start fresh. I want to file bankruptcy. If I can only pay I would but I can't afford it.

Since I had no job when I moved back here 2 years ago, I did not ask to change my address. I am tired of getting phone calls after phone calls from collectors.

Now I want to file bankruptcy. What do I need to do first? Will I get in trouble since I did not notify them I moved here in Michigan? I had the cards for about 4-5 years while in college. Need your advice. Debts are like 5 years old.

    THanks!
    Seth

You need to meet with 2-3 local attorneys for a free consult. Give them as much info as they ask for and see what they tell you. Enter your zip code and see if there are attorneys near you: http://www.nacba.com/

I'd agree that you need to start speaking with some lawyers. What do I do first is too broad of a question.
No, not notifying creditors when you move won't create any problems.
I'd suggest you pull your free annual credit reports and see which collection agencies are listed so you name everyone who could conceivably have a claim.

Will the creditors find out where I work if I pull out the credit report? I am just afraid they will keep calling me again. I don't want to get in trouble from my work because of them keep calling.

Are these debts still in SOL?

If the debts are 5 years old, have the charged off and moved on? You may not need to file, I agree, pull your credit report at free annual credit reports , or go to freecreditreport.com and pay $1 for the trial and use a virtual card with a limit so it wont renew and get your score too -

You might be surprised at what your score looks like now

If you provide a current address, phone, etc. when getting a free credit report or even a paid one, I'm fairly certain the address will be put on your report. Creditors typically pull reports monthly. Won't matter if you are including them in a BK soon.

i pulled out my free credit report and it shows some of the cards that are charged off or written off. what does that mean?

For example with Chase it was transferred, closed and written off. And the status does not say anything.

For Discover though, it says account charged off but on Status the account is scheduled to continue on record until Jan 2012.

                Can somebody please explain?

                I appreciate any help.

It's off their books and probably sold to a debt collector. It was a tax write off for them. You still owe the debt though unfortunately.
