Filed Chapter 7 papers yesterday

Should have done this last year but we thought we might be able to fight our way out of it.I have to say I feel very relieved to being close to a fresh start.We definitely won't make the same mistakes again.

I think that's the outcome that the bk law makers are looking for. Relief and lessons learned. Same with us, congrats!

Good to hear you are on your way to a fresh start. I just turned in my paperwork to my attorney this week (Ch 7 no assets). I am still a bit anxious about the outcome and I am doing my best to stay positive. I tried to stave off BK but in the end I knew I was just spinning my wheels and in fact just going backwords in trying to keep up on minimum payments and paying down debt.

I filed yesterday too. I told a co-worker who I have been talking to about all of this and she said hesitantly "congratulations??" I told her that congratulations is appropriate because it really is a big relief.

Yes all of above and many who lurk. You must go into this seriously with a new life style and new life. Fear of those who "scoff" at you (and most don't really) you can depend that they may only be a paycheck away from bk too.

Most people here were and many in this crazy economy are going to join this club.

I know I've heard some negative comments from some people at work about bk, who have no idea my husband and I have filed. We have tried to juggle everything for years, because we kept thinking we could get ourselves out of the mess we were in; but when our home dropped in value (upside down about $250,000) and the payment was going up, we finally had to make some hard decisions.

I think it's reassuring to read that people have tried to make things work and are not taking the filing of bk lightly. I realize we are walking away from our debt, including the foreclosure of our home, but we did not make the decision without a lot of discussion and there are consequences. This forum has helped me so much in realizing that we are not alone, so thank you all for your informational postings. It is helping me a lot during this stressful time.

My coworker wasn't being judgmental. She just wasn't sure "congratulations" was the right thing to say to somebody who just filed BK. She's very understanding. I knew she would be which is why I told her about the BK.
