    Happy Ending

Today, I get a call form a Doctor's office, which by the way, was to be discharged. This Doctor is my orthodontist. I thought, why in the world are they calling me?

Let me expalin for sec, if I may. About 4 years ago, I began suffering from some bad spells of vertigo. I had all kinds of tests done (MRI and CT scans) and nothing was found. Well, my sister works for one of the best orthodontists in the region (rated one of the top 10) and she mentioned something about vertigo being linked to jaw trouble. Anyways, my bite was a little off and my teeth never met properly, so I set-up a consult. Had my consult and it was recommended that I get braces for about 18 months or so. Oh my, 31 years old and braces?

I get my braces, and would you believe that within a few short months, the vertigo ceased. And it's been almost three years since then and I haven't had a vertigo attack since. And let me tell you, it was bad. There were days when I couldn't walk straight. LOL....good excuse to get out of a DUI too.....LOL!

To make a long story short, the doctors office called me this afternoon to inform me that they were not seeking any moneys, nor would they file proof of claim. They wrote of the $95 balance I owed them and said if I would like to continue my care with the orthodontist for exams and follow-ups (which I'm in desperate need of.......need new retainers), I am still welcome there and there would be no hard feelings.

For once, someone made me feel like I was still human, even though I have filed BK. I wish there were more people like this. That totally made my day.

wow glad to hear that for sure!

peopel dont know but vertigo is very disabling. it ruins your life. you can not function, drive or talk to people while your head is spinning around and you are getting dizzy. it puts you down for bed rest and harsh medication.

a friend i knew before went to a specialist and got her head thrashed about violently in a chair sitting upside down, etc. that sometimes can fix the entire problem as well. she only went back one more time afterwards that i know of.

i never heard it linked to jaw structure, etc though. good to know.

im so happy you are happy!

To explain the jaw structure thing really quick.........My teeth were also crowded and they were being pushed towards the rear of my mouth, thus, causing pressure on the nerve to the inner ear just behind the lower jaw, causing the dizziness. So, use braces to pull the teeth to their proper position and the pressure is relieved. Dizziness gone.

Yes, rapid head movements can fatigue the vertigo and the symptoms temporarily subside. A roller coaster ride is perfect for this.....LOL!

makes sense. so you can remove the jaw completely if you need a quick fix or get braces. nice!

Hey vertigo is nothing to make fun of. I suffer from it (yeah, yeah, I know dizzy blonde). I had all those expensive tests that were a waste of time and made me sick too. (the remainder of my bills were written off too) I truly think that my vertigo is caused by nerves.

I had to paint about 4 feet of trim molding to finish my living room and it took me all weekend, I was on a mission, I would get on the ladder (real smart huh? I know, dumbe dizzy blonde) paint about two or three minutes and then wobble to the couch and be sick for an hour.
I know you are thinking why didn't DH finish it (he held the ladder)? Trust me my 3 year old grandson can paint better and neater than he can.
I'll be watching, you may never know when or how, but I'll be there. I am there now....

The vertigo isn't as bad to me as the nausea. When I get vertigo, I stay in bed, am very quiet, no lights, etc.
Makes me nauseaous just thinking about it.

              Don't worry I wasn't offended.

Vertigo is some serious stuff... funny I seen this thread as I just got over a spell for about a week. First time I ever experienced something like that and it was not fun. The first day was the worst... I woke up one morning to the room spinning around 100 m.p.h. and it would not stop. Even if I closed my eyes I could still feel my body spinning just the same. The intensity declined each day and finally has gone away about a week later.

Scary thought thinking about waking up to that crap again.

Vertigo can also be debris in the inner ear (like excess fluid). This is when you have the symptoms, and then they go away within a few days to a week, but you never have the symptoms again. I believe that is what is called benign positional vertigo. This is what I was diagnosed with, but it wasn't temporary. The spells would last for three to four days at a time, then subside for a couple of days, and then come back. I felt drunk all of the time. If I turned around too quickly, it felt like my head was minutes behind. It was weird.

During the spells, all I wanted to do was slam my head through a wall. I thought if I rang my bell really hard, I would forget that my head was spinning. It totally sucked. I couldn't eat during those spells beause all I wanted to do is puke. The sight of food made nautious.

It's people/companies like that that really should succeed.

If I was you, maybe no repayment, but bringing of small "Gifts" to reward individuals wouldn't hurt!

Hmmm, maybe not a bad idea.
