    First Consultations Next Week

I have two appointments set in the next couple of weeks. The first attorney spoke with me at length on the telephone, explained her fees, and sent me a stack of forms to fill out before our first meeting. She also sent me a link to her software (bestcase) and said if I fill everything out she'd give me a discount on the fees. She has already answered a couple of questions via email for me.

The second attorney I made an appointment with wants a $150 consultation fee. I didn't speak to him directly. I asked what I should bring with me to our first meeting and she said nothing. So I'm wondering what exactly am I going to get out of this first meeting for $150?

I'm liking the first one already and I haven't even met her..lol

No need to pay for any initial interview. What is as telling as anything is that the Atty doesn't want you to bring anything with you, so the meeting isn't likely to be specific about you or your case. I would cancel the 2nd meeting and find another Atty who offers a free initial consult.

As I think about it, I did pay a 75 initial consult fee to the Atty that I ended up using. The fee did apply to the retainer if you used them, and that turned out to be a good choice since this Atty offered much more than the free consult. So I guess it varies.

What I think is just as important is how well prepared you are with advance knowledge and questions. You are interviewing the Atty and if you conduct it as an interview of who you plan to hire, being well prepared with questions, you will clearly see who will do the best job for you.
