    Certified Mail from HSBC

I recently missed a delivery of a letter mailed to me by HSBC bank. I am filing a chapter 13 on June 13th and most of my accounts are at least 60 days past due. It's driving me nuts wondering what the letter could be. Any thoughts?? Could it be a summons for a judgement already or could it be because I shut my home phone off. It's driving me crazy and I can't pick it up until Monday.

We owed $$ to HSBC as well and they also sent a few certified letters.

If I recall correctly, they were just letters informing us of how far past due we were and that they would soon consider turning our account over to a collection agency.

Since the creditors get a conformation card back in the main when the cert letter is delivered, I suspect the main reason for it is to confirm that you're still at that address. Especially since you turned off your phone.

When you finally get the letter come back and let us know what it was for.
    Filed C13 5/09
    Confirmed 10/09
Plan will be paid up 6/11

i also have a po box for mailing address, was wondering if just not picking up the certified letter is the same as a refusal...after two weeks i believe they send it back...its my understanding you have to sign for it...to be considered delivered....i have NEVER gotten anything good via certified mail...so i have NO intention of ever signing for any mail....

It was just a letter stating that I needed to contact them by April 30th or they would consider getting a lawyer to looke into my debt with them.

Doubtful they'd sue after 60 days or so but to be sure call the Clerk's office in the courts (district or superior depending typically on debt amount) and ask them if anything filed.

I called every week or so, before I filed Ch7 just in case I was not served "in error"

we're 2 payments behind on amex & we got a cerified letter yesterday- at the top said "right to cure" and that this was a letter trying to collect a debt. 2 paragraphs stating to send in the amount past due (almost $90) or the fulll $1800 may become due in full. Was scared when i had to sign it, but when i read it- it was just a collection letter.
We're filing chapter 13 in a few weeks, just waiting for income tax refund to come in to fix our roof & cars.

Nothing good comes by certified mail. If it's not from a court or a law firm I'd just never pick it up.
filed chapter 13..confirmed...converted to chapter 7...DISCHARGED!

our's the mail lady just brought; she rang the doorbell & when i answered I just had to sign a little pink card.
Our's was from amex & came w/ a return envelope to send the $90 in. Atty said not to send anything as we're filing in a couple weeks & it'd be just a waste of money.
If they or anyone did file suit, we could file ASAP- the only reason we're trying to wait is to get our income tax refund. I think we have even exemptions to keep part but not all of it if we file first. Chapter 13 is a long 5 years, so we'd really like to get the refund first & spend part of it down on things that really need to get done.
