Is anyone in a similar situation, or does anyone have any advise

I PERSONALLY owe $44,000 in unsecured debt ($16,000 credit cards, $11,000 hospital, and $17,000 on 2 repossessed vehicles after loosing a succesful small business in the current recession/depression. Finally after about a year I am just starting to get collection notices.

I am on Unemployment Insurance for now, and stand to earn about $400 a week if I find a job. I own nothing at all, have no money or assets, I rent a room from a friend, I have a $1500 valued auto, and am truly down to nothing.

Question, If I don't file bankruptcy can there be a judgement against me, even though i have no assets and very low earnings?

Question, Should I get ahold of and start paying a Bankruptcy Lawyer a small amount each month until they are paid up and do the bankruptcy, or am I too poor for the creditors to waste their time squeezing a few pennies out of me?

I guess my concern would be the effects if you do get a good paying job and them coming after you. Judgements can be placed at least by government I do know that even if you do not have assets. The other creditors will continue to add on fees and interest until the debt is dismissed or paid. Of course if you get lucky and get your larger income back someday you might be able to negotiate that. BK is a personal decision. We did ours over being laid off so hubby income vanished, and medical/dental debt.. very little credit card debt. At the time we owned two homes a rental in GA and one here in MO. We tried everything with Wells Fargo to do a short sale or DIL and once we lost the renter we had little choice but not to pay. Prior to that we were spending our retirement and savings on our bills and in the end we ran out before anything good happened. We made the best choice we could for us at the time, if we incure more medical debt we could be in a pickle, but we had no real choice at the time.
