Hello...
Things still pretty quiet here (knock on wood veneer)...but I know that won't last.
Anyway...I have yet to get a call from Bank Am, where I have two CC's now late...but yesterday's mail brought two different letters from them on just one of the accounts.
They are "concerned" that my account is past due...and they "have numerous programs in place that can help (me) work through (my) financial situation and take the steps needed to resolve (my) debt." I'm to call them at 866-574-6302. In boldface and italic, the final comment is "Remember, if you're experiencing financial problems, please call us today so we can set up a program that can help you make your credit card payments on time."
Second letter, they will "be happy to work with me to help me keep my account up to date." I should call them at 888-260-9340. (Geez, which number and program is it??)
Since I am unemployed and have NO income, I'm mainly just curious about these "programs" they are so sincere about helping me with? I know it's still very early in the game but I am surprised at the lack of more aggressive contact, as the two cards together are my biggest CC debt, about $15K.
Also...took another "toll free number" call from HSBC, which came to my landline two seconds after they tried my cellphone. Very nice young woman, who also told me that if I can't make next payment date of 1/19, I am to call them and tell them, and they have "programs" to possibly help deter the accruing late fees, etc. We were both very polite to each other and I thanked her for the call.
So...are they both just blowing sunshine up my butt? (as a friend likes to say.)
Is the point to get me on the phone and just get more info? From all I've read here, BofA and HSBC appear to be among the least-friendly CCs...so is this just the very early "make nice" period?
As I say, if I had an income it might be a different story...but as I don't, I have no plans to call anybody.
Oops - meant to place this in COLLECTIONS sub-forum...mod would you please move? Sorry!
