I'm getting ready to not pay for the first time in my life! I've never gotten phone calls or anything. What if I just change my number? All I have is my cell and I'm wondering why I shouldn't do that? I don't want 30-40 calls a day! YIKES!

What about where you work? Can they call you there?

They can. I believe that's why some say it's better to confirm they have your home number correct so that they don't call your job trying to find you.

I think they'd probably try ANYWAY--but who knows.

I think you can tell them that you are not allowed to take calls at work though.

Good grief! USAA has been ringing the phones off the hook today!!!

They call my cell--and don't leave a msg.

They call the house phone like every HOUR! It's 8:45pm and they just called. I thought 8pm was the latest they could call.

Umm, ok...as I was typing this...they called AGAIN! It's been like 3 minutes since the last call.

It's going to be a LONNNNGGGGGGG couple of months till we file.

Today is my first day I opted not to pay a few CC bills left for December. I really can't. My family needs should be first. I have my free consultation with an attorney Dec 14 and I am filling for Chapter 7 early February.
I wish everybody good luck getting out of this slavery.
Thank God I found this forum and many thanks to people posting here.

            I want to be free.
            Mike.

              Brokemike,

              and others.

ALWAYS put your family first. That was a tough lesson for me, and no one should repeat it. Sadly, many will.

These mega-corp's care nothing for you and your family. Put your money not into credit cards this month, but into the holidays. That does not mean spending a ton on gifts, but spending TIME thinking about your situation and how to better it. If you have a few extra bucks to spend, since you're not paying CC, then so be it. I promise you, the bank CEO, in their 12 million dollar Central Park Apartment, will not miss your payment.

              Yet.

One day, if more are willing to walk past the line, they may regret it very much.

              Until then, happy holidays!

Thanks DeadManCrawling for your answer. All this year(2009) my first thing was to pay the CC every month even we didn't have enough left to eat or other personal things. But right now I can't do it anymore and I don't wanna do it anymore. It is not my choice. It is the economy pushing us.

Happy Holidays everyone and a better year!

                Mike.

Just buy a Skype number for $30/year then just let it take messages if you don't want to answer. You can also block it if you want.

I have a cell phone only. It has a ringtone that is a single beep. Just one little beep. I had that set to my default ring so any unknown numbers beeped once and that was it.....and I usually never heard the beep if the cell was in the kitchen or in my purse. All freinds and family have a different very loud and annoying ringtone so I would hear them. It worked for me :-)

Great idea about calling them to say you can't take calls at work. That's what I DO NOT want happening! I'm going to call them this evening. I tried to remove my number online but it keeps telling me to put in valid office number even though it's not highlighted as being required...so frustrating!

I just paid all my bills except the credit cards and car payment we're letting go. I still feel like I can't breathe! I can't wait for this to end...

I have my cell set on vibrate, and just keep it in a pocket. that way its not ringing constantly and being annoying, and If I'm in company I can glance discreetly at it and decide if its a number that I want to answer.

I got rid of the home phone a while ago..to save money

I tried to figure out how to set our phone to ring different tones for different parties and couldn't figure it out! I'm technologically challenged though. I've had a cell phone for 5 years now and don't know how to send a text message, lol!

My cell phone vibrates so loudly you can hear it from another room!

we are so lucky to have found this forum.
Even though I am still pretty stressed out, I am able to deal with things, like for example, the phone calls in a much more confident manner. I have also found it has educated me enourmously on the whole process, and I feel more able to talk intelligently to the attorneys about my circumstances.

My situation is a bit complex, and I still have some worries, but not as much as before.

Thank you to everyone who participates here and gives such good advice and encouragement

Not pay the first time is the hardest. The emotional hit can be very rough. Remember, when you borrowed the money you had every intention of honoring your commitment.

Then, for most of us, the larger macro economy intervened. Lost of income, changes in terms, medical issues.

Each check you get is your money. Be sure to take care of your family first.
