Retaining an attorney, but not fililing for a few months?

I have a meeting with a second attorney on Monday and am hoping to be able to give him a retainer fee then. My issue is that I would like to stop paying on the credit cards and car I'll be giving up. If I do that, then obviously the collection calls will start coming. But, if I've retained the attorney, am I able at that point to refer the calls to him?

I'm wanting to wait to file so that I can keep some, or all, of my tax refund. Plus, I have my fathers checks direct deposited into my account and I need to stop that for a few months.

I'm just a wreck over all of this. Thanks for all your advice

We had our first consultation with our Lawyer in September of 07 and didn't file until October of this year. We almost messed up our chances at a chapter 7 because we waited too long but we wanted to try and avoid BK if at all possible (it wasn't). During that two year period, we had all of our calls go to our lawyer and they even handled 3 creditors that have sued us. Luckily, she's very patient and has been great to work with.
