Getting ready and dont care to make mistakes

After speaking with several lawyers, looks like the wife and I are going chapter 7. We were told to wait a bit to file so that no charges will be on the CC's for 90 days and our income will be closer to median (getting laid off near the end of the month) plus we were givin numbers to refer the callers to.
One thing I forgot to ask our lawyer (and I will ask him though he is out of the office for a few days) is our account with Direct TV, a year ago I signed up with them because they were much less then cable in the area. Unfortunatly if I cancel with them they will not only hit me with an early cancelation fee but they will zap my CC with that fee.

Anyone have any experiance dealing with them or were able to keep them through this?

My concerns are if I cut them loose having to reset the clock on the waiting period or it being viewed as a prefrential treatment.

Going through our budget and cutting where we can just don't care to make any mistakes. Any advice is appreciated.

Can't you cancel your credit card (say you want to close the account, have nothing additional charged to it) and then let Direct TV do what it wants. If the creditor allows the charge after being told to close the account, then they really don't have a leg to stand on when it comes to objecting to the charge being in the 90 day window, in my opinion.

You could also just get your current cc number canceled and issued a new number.

And that's not a problem to get done.
