Missing Bank Deposit - Accident or Result of Filing?

I'm sure this is an accident, but the timing sucks so I just want to be sure.

Attorney filed my chapter 7 on Wednesday. Hits the Credit Reports on Thursday. On Friday, I deposit my paycheck (drawn on bank's online banking check system, so their check) and it shows up in my online statement just fine. Today, poof, it's gone - and the bank says they have no record of it anywhere. They can't research it until Monday.

Fortunately, I have deposit slip and photocopy of check and I have enough funds to cover outstanding checks and live for the next week. I owe no money to bank (only have a checking account with Visa debit card, nothing else) and never bounced a check in 9 years with them. I just want to make sure - filing would not have triggered some sort of special hold on deposits with them? It's TD Bank, if that makes a difference.

Also, this is the 2nd time in 12 months this has happened to me there. Is it possible to switch banks before discharge? Or should I just suck it up and deal with it until discharge is complete and case closed then transfer to another bank?

What happened the first time? Did the bank resolve it to your satisfaction?

If I had made two deposits in 12 months the 'dissappeared' I would be looking for another bank. However you are probably best served by having your discharge in place before you change banks. JMO.
    Filed CH 7 9/30/2008
    Discharged Jan 5, 2009! Closed Jan 18, 2009

I am not an attorney. None of my advice is legal advice in any way..

The first time, the bank had a computer failure, so they were late in processing. It could happen to anyone, but they consistently passed the buck rather than give me accurate information until I showed up in person.

Anyway - the real question in all of this is what do banks do with a BK but otherwise excellent banking record, and what do trustees do with switching banks? I can suck it up, but I'm really peeved that it's happened twice now, and would like to vote with my feet and meager pennies, but I also don't want to create more problems for myself.

I agree, waiting for discharge is probably the wisest thing to do.

TCF Bank did this to me last year.. they were my 'bankruptcy bank' (the bank I went to after I filed). They lost my deposits - cash ones only, ironically - a total of five times in 9 months. I fired them 2 months ago and went to a CU. TCF had various excuses each time "the computer did it" " so and so forgot to print a receipt on our end" "this happens all of the time". Sorry, sounded way to fishy to me and all I could think about was employees stealing my money. The last time they made me wait 3 days while they found the money THEY lost, even though I always had my deposit receipts, they do an 'investigation' each time. After having to wait 3 days for my CASH deposit, I just about lost it.

You can change banks during a bankruptcy, but I would avoid it out of fear that the trustee may get suspicious that you are trying to hide money or move it around.

I highly recommend a credit union too, when you do switch. They are helping me rebuild my credit with a secured loan, which is taken against my savings, and posts to all 3 credit reports. And I got the loan for 4.25%!! For not being a year out of bk yet, thats pretty good IMO.
        Retained bk7 laywer 8-12-08, Filed 12-22, 341 Meeting Scheduled 1-29-09
        Discharged 4-17-09!!!
Reason for filing: Medical, NOT irresponsibility with credit.
