Yeah... I actually notified my would be lawyer about a possible decrease in Michigan and he said a decrease would be a help! WHAT??? Now, I'm starting to rethink my decision to hire him. How can a decrease help my case if I was right near the wire as it was??? Now I'm thinking he may not be as experienced as I was thought! What would anyone here do in my case after I was told that?

Huh? I don't understand how a decrease could help a near-median filer. Did he think you would be receiving a decrease in pay? He either doesn't understand numbers or doesn't listen very well. Either way, I'd be concerned.

I argued with my first consult attorney about the possibility of median changes. I'm only a few hundred under the current median and I had concerns. He told me the median ALWAYS increases. Guess he hasn't stepped outside of his office in the past year or so to witness the economic collapse of Detroit. I enjoy being correct; although, I would be happier if our immediate economy wasn't such a mess.

The only reason someone would want to be under-the-median is to avoid being "flagged" by the United States Trustee for additional scrutiny.

Most under-the-median income filers enjoy a painless 341 Meeting and a quick and equally painless discharge. However, an under-the-median income filer can still raise the interest of the UST by having a case in which they are discharging at, near or over $100K in unsecured debt. Asset cases also may receive more scrutiny by the UST.

Wow, I see the median income for the single earner in Ca went down just over $1k in the new tables.
Here in AZ in my daughter's case the median went up by $64 for a family of 3.
I know that MI was hit hard and I looked and the median there for a single earner is down too from $44,703 to $43,611.
I was really amazed as hard as AZ has been hit that it went up, even a little bit.
But I knew that MI was hit much harder and I guess CA too.
It appears that some that are about to file may have to move it to beat the lower figures in some states if it's having an adversarial affect on their cases.

                Nevada

For a family of 5 in Nevada it went down about $3,600.00. Good thing we filed when we did, as we were already over median by about $5,000.00.

                  Wow, that's quite a bit.
My wife and I were just visiting Vegas in early Sept and noted that the tables were pretty empty compared to visits in the past.
                  A sign of the times.

Yes, Nevada has been hit hard. I don't go to the casinos very often as I don't gamble, but when I am there it sure is a lot less crowded.

I check a single family earner for Nevada and it went down around $1,878.00.

Times are definitely tough, and I am grateful for the jobs my husband and I have.

We did not go there to gamble and did not drop a dime. We went to celebrate our 40th anniversary and see some shows.
It had been a long time since we had done anything as with most of us.

                        Congrats on your 40th.

I wish I could get out to see some more of the shows. With three kids unfortunately we don't get a lot of time to go out. It's nice to see somebody who can come and enjoy Vegas and not have to lose all their money (although it would be good for Vegas' economy)
