i have been contemplating this for some time. As soon as I get my BK completed, I'm keeping my eye open for some land. i live in Ca. and this state has gone to Hell in a hand basket. i was born here in 1956, and i have had enough. My BIL bought 36 acres in arizona and put a modular home on it and plans to retire there. its up in the sticks but , i could do something like that. AZ is a nice state, you can legally cary an exposed fire arm and their politics is not corupted yet. one thing i do have going for me is i have a good pension coming to me, as i work for a major company for 30 years so far. Of course if the country erupts into Chaos, who know if our retirements are safe.

Yes, but people who had never though of owning a gun suddenly wanted one. It was kind of scarey if your a gun owner knowing these people didn't know a thing about it were not asking anyone for help, simply going out an buying a gun and ammo. Right after the elections it was nuts! Now days it is better. I don't know the shelf life, but we have powder on our reloading table for a month or more at a time. And shotgun shells last a long time. We reuse our brass, and just buy primers, powder and lead. When more people suddenly jump into anything it causes a shortage, and then the reverse effect happens. The other day I was talking to our local gunsmith and he told me that he had a load of guns and the buying frenzy had stopped. Guns are dropping in value for trade ins too.

I lived in AZ for 25 years, and they are corrupt and have been since the S&L mess out there. But I still love the state and hope to return simply because I love the desert/mountains/and lakes. And I like the free open spaces it provides of BLM land. I use to go up to prescott and on the 4th we had water gun fights... a bunch of people have moved there from out of state in the last 5 years and I guess one of them got WET during the celebration. They have outlawed the event now. So many people move there loving it and the next thing you know they want to change it. They start planting grass, and flowers and putting in pools.. geesh it is a desert!!!!! There are parts of the state that are more foligated, like the pines and and things in Flagstaff, or the grass lands down by Sierra Vista/Tombstone. There were things I disagreed with living there, but never fought to change what was the state. BEing out on horseback in the mountains with a gun loaded with snakeshot on your hip had a feeling greater than church to me... I was in heaven!! lol... I lived in CA too for a few short years, once back in the seventies and it was very neat, the last time in around 2001, and that was the high desert around Victorville and it was not so neat.. but I loved being close to family. That I miss here in MO>> Good luck to you..

I have traveled on business many times to Mo. and have friends down in Joplin. IMHO people from Mo. are the finest you can find in this country, the kind that will give you the shirt off their back. I have contelplated retiring there, its just that blasted ugly weather. lots to do there, hunting and fishing. and the best barbecue meat in the Mid-west. But yes, i prefer warmer climate, the desert.

Years ago, back in the hippy days I had a good male friend ask me if I would be interested in living off the land in a cabin someplace. FRankly, I grew up with an outhouse, and a tea kettle of hot water was used to fill our bathtub. I still remember the fridged mornings and evenings waiting for my turn at the outhouse, or dreading having to use the chamber pot and then having to clean it. I remember also getting up at 5 am to help milk cows and doing it again after school at night... and the canning, hoeing, freezing, making butter, and cheese, collecting berries for jelly. I grew up the best way you could have ever grown up, on a farm surrounded by animals that I loved and using my mind to create in that pasture land. While I loved it, I remember the struggles too toiling in the weather even when you did not feel so well. I had to tell him back then in my early twenties that I was not one bit interested in returning to an outside toilet.. lol But there are parts that I do not mind one bit. I hope it does not come to that, but every day I hear more and more that people are laid off, banks are closing and the remaining ones are holding on to their money. The rich never think of cutting back on how they live, instead they instantly cut jobs to hold the profit line. In doing that they are causing bk's to happen and people to go without bare necessities so they can continue their living standard. Everyday I hear them complain about their investments in my office, and they never consider the impact on the lower wage earners. Yet, the lower wage earners are low lives for filing bk's.. So, I hope we do not have to go back to chopping wood, cuz frankly spliting firewood is not my dream jobs.. ha ha.

It does, especially if you are in the area of Florida that we are and the sulfur and salt-laden water that we have. Ideally the guns and ammunition should be kept in a gun safe that has a dampening rod in it like your piano does. Of course that has to be plugged in........

A food saver from Wally World does a good job removing moisture and keeping things for long term storage. It's not just for food anymore.....

There is plenty of great hunting in AZ. You have to get drawn for big game, but some of the best elk in the nation are there!! I just love it out there...but I guess jobs out there are pretty bad right now so we are waiting for a while. We hope to save up some money by renting a dump... lol That is about all we can afford to rent right now..

Ahh... sand also is a great storage vehicle. Eggs can be stored in sand for a long time to preserve them.

Put Home Ec back in our schools!
I believe a bring problem with our society is that kids can't legally work until the are 16 and well by that time they are to busy having fun with sports and friends to care to get a job. for the young years they have only had to ask for the $$ from mommy and daddy and gotten it. No work values have been taught to the kids in the USA.

I believe that the high rate of kids going to college is just so they can rake in mommy and daddy's health insurance and delay adult life a bit. Now don't get me wrong post high school learning is gret just think some kids need real life for a bit.

Ahh... sand also is a great storage vehicle. Eggs can be stored in sand for a long time to preserve them.

Just make sure that they don't get washed first.
