    Time To Circle The Wagons?

Record economic problems in nearly every sector of America. I cannot speak for the rest of the world, and many nations are doing very well, but America seems to be on its last leg in many ways.

As some of you know, we are pursuing a mod that may be too good to be true, but we have a backup plan.

If we don't get what we need, we are planning for the worst.

Understand, I am far from a conspiracy theorist. I used to LAUGH at these folks, the ones gathering guns and preparing private compunds for the end of our government.

Now I am not so sure.

If our mod does not show up as expected, we have this:

FIL has just bought about a half acre of land in the county. It is suitable for raising some livestock, a garden, growing herbs, and (most important) can be totally self-sufficient in terms of power use, food, maintenance, and feed our entire family.

    That is Plan B.

    Are we nuts?

No you are NOT nuts. You are being wise. 'Hub and I are on a piece of property that my g-grandfather bought in 1860. Although we are not at the present, we can be fairly self sufficient if need be. We live on a river--the mullet are running--and we have enough land and woods that we can farm and hunt on if it comes to that.

Let us hope and pray it doesn't.

My wagons are circled up very tight. As for me, I don't think that you're crazy, I think that you have your eyes open to what's going on around us.

We are in very perilous times in America today. It appears that one or two more straws on the camels back and everything could break apart.

I don't think you are crazy either. Until we can BUY our government back, and turn this train around I am too afraid of the future. I have saved receipes for making soap from my grandmother. I have canning jars, and even if I rent I can grow a garden. I can sew, and I can build a fire.. ha ha. The truth is the younger generation will take the most hurt if something goes wrong, they have none of these skills. It will be up to us to help them too. As for buying land, probably not, I doubt I will ever own land again in my life time. If you have anything, the people at the top want it, so why kills myself working so hard?

This exactly the direction we are heading with our family. We do not yet have the property, but hope to by this time next year. We want the ability to survive on/off our land as needed.

As someone has already said, the young generation will be hurt the worst. They have no idea how to even sew a button or preserve food, let alone make clothing and such. The skills the older generation learned from our grandparents, needs to be passed on to our grandchildren. Life lesson skills to survive are critical when needed.

No. My mom and dad and 2 of my brothers and their families live on a farm/ranch. We know that there is a place for us there and we can be totally self sufficient. My sisters in law and I have been learning to sew, preserve food, grow huge gardens, butcher etc. We are doing it all. Next summer we intend to grow and can enough food for 6 families for the winter, all on the farm. And if things fall apart and we cannot find safety in the city we will be gone in a heartbeat. Oh, and we already home school.

Well.. I grew up in the city. Over the past two years I have learned how to plant a garden. We made about 2k off our garden this year. We have been canning and my wife just made her first batch of apple sauce.I learned how to butcher my first deer last year ( ground burger to chops, steaks) etc.. We have been stocking a pantry... So.. I have been slowly taking action. I am not a person to be paranoid but something tells me I need to be doing this.

You have to realize unless you have a wall around you, there is no way to defend yourself when the time comes. A few guns won't do it. You can have the garden, livestock, etc, but if someone wants it they will do what they can to take it away from you. That's why I say f**** it and instead hope for the better. I will survive even without my own land or livestock. One way or another...hmm i wonder if gun sales of increased lately??

Gun sales and ammo were up right after the election because the NRA had people conviced that OBAMA was going to take their rights from them. I like to target shoot, and reload, but still brass went thru the roof thanks to those idiots. The upside is many will be unloading things after they calm down a bit. Prices are back down, primers, brass, bullets, and guns are getting back in line. But it is hard to sell a gun now because the market is flooded.

I though ammo has a shelf life? After a while they aren't as reliable.

'Hub's brother bought us backpacks and packed them with first aid kits, battery-powered and crank-powered radios, flares, lights, walki-talki radios. We are to add other survival gear such as utility knives, hand-held fishing gear, good twine, lightweight blankets, etc.

Bro's theory is that we should keep these packs in our cars as we are likely to be separated, and when the ravening hordes come, we should abandon the property and hide until they leave. Then go back and recover as best we can.

Now Bro tends to go a little overboard on this type of thing, but as we watch and ponder the future, we cannot say that he is totally wrong.

It does, especially if you are in the area of Florida that we are and the sulfur and salt-laden water that we have. Ideally the guns and ammunition should be kept in a gun safe that has a dampening rod in it like your piano does. Of course that has to be plugged in........
