    Credit One Credit Offer

We received in the mail yesterday our first half way decent cc offer. Interest rate is high 23%, but it only has a $69 set up fee and an annual fee of $69. I know that's bad, but no other fees that I can see, no deposit to open either. I have no intentions of using or activating this card. It is a preapproved and has an up to $1500 credit limit. I just opened this up, I like looking at some of the ridiculous offers, this was the best so far. Funny today is 60 days for us and we now received our first cc offer that seems somewhat reasonable.

Anyone who says cc companies didn't create this mess then why do they send out cc offers to people like me who have cc issues. You know cc are an addiction for people who like to shop. This is what should seriously be stopped. Offers shouldn't be sent, if I want a cc, I can find one, don't send someone like me an offer to tempt me.

You can stop the credit card offers.....the first link below didnt make it easy to spot the "opt out" Web site, so I decided to post it (the second link).....hope this helps and good luck

Experian, one of the three major credit bureaus, offers credit monitoring and reporting services. The various methods of contacting the company are based on the type of information you need. The "Contact Us"

If you know you have a shopping addiction and the offers are too tempting, just opt out so they can't send them.

I have found that a few extreme predatory lenders use information on bankruptcy obtained either from the courts or lexisnexis and send targeted offers to you. So you may get a few offers even if you have opted out... but not nearly as many!

We're opting out of those too, before they even start up again.

We have the prepaid card to use when we want to buy something online. The 4.99 reload fee is WAY less than any and all fees that I would definitely accumilate with a 'real' cc, lol.

We've had ours for years. We started to ~trust~ them enough to have my husband's check direct deposited (that's free each time) to it so we can pay bills the night before, it's working very well for us.

We recently got the same offer -- been discharged for about a month. This was definitely the best cc offer we've received.

I don't know if we will have a cc at some point to rebuild credit but I certainly don't want one where I have a balance from the moment I open it. I also know $1500, if we qualified for it, is toooo much credit for us.

The "up to $1500 credit limit" probably is actually closer to $300, and $138.00 of that is chewed up with the fees! Not a good deal at all, and one to run away from!

I guess my thought about the whole issue of credit offers is the fact you eventually will need to build your credit up again and yes, 23% is high but if you have bills (cable, phone, internet, etc..) that have to be paid monthly anyway why not just use the card to pay these bills on and pay it OFF every month? If you pay it off there would be no interest charged and it would be a good way to build up the credit again. Just my thought on it!

We have a debit card with a Visa logo. I don't really understand how that works, but anywhere that accepts Visa accepts my debit card. Nice thing is it's right out of our checking acct. I know exactly what I can afford, and I am not tempted to overspend, I like it that way.

I am sure I will opted out of cc offers. I know someday I may care again about my credit score, today I don't. I used to think that was so important, now it's not. Right now living within our means is all I care about, having a few dollars in my pocket matters. I got to the point I never had a dime in my pocket, it all went to cc bills. So I don't think cc are something I ever want again, but I also know, never say never, just right now they scare me to death!

                    rebuilding credit

Credit cards are not good after BK if you can't control your spending.
However if you are looking to rebuld your credit there is prepaid installment loan and prepaid credit card available from Citibank. Annual fee is $29 and you can't spend more than you prepaid already.
Watch out for some expensive offers, read all the details. For example this one just found www.accountnow.com Monthly fee of $9.95 and most other fees waived with direct deposit. But if there is no direct deposit, there is funding fee and customer service fee and statement fee, etc etc And they would require you to enroll in special credit reporting service to have your monthly payments reported to some unknown credit bureau PRBC. So I think this credit card is useless for rebuilding credit. If you have a regular checking account with Visa or Mastercard debit card, that's the same thing but free of any fees.

I was discharged in April and got the CreditOne CC in August.

The annual fee and set up fee were a small price to pay to have my credit score go up... Discharge FICO: 417. Credit score as of last week: 646!

While its a far cry from my credit score prior to getting into this pickle, the credit card definately helped bring my score back up. My introductory credit line with credit one is only $300, so most people cant get into that much trouble. I say go for it.

Remember - it a business and businesses are in business to make money and profits for shareholders. They need to advertise to sell their wares. Credit Card companies are no different. If you don't want the offer, don't open the envelope and toss. If you open it and read it, just as with any other offer you can get sucked in. The decision is yours... Always keep that in mind witih any offer from any business...

Wow, that is encouraging. I am waiting for my discharge and I am looking forward to rebuilding and using my credit wisely.
Very fortunate in the grand scheme of things but have learned my lesson.
