Well...That's ONE measure, but not the full amount.

    I have $38,000 Debt. I make about $20-$24K a year.

However, due to living conditions, I have had to "Help out" parent for bills and so, I offer rent (With food and utilties mixed in) and she refused, but she had to take it (Medical insurance and bills) and so, that was good.

But I made an error of going with paperless billing and I also had to repair a car and so, when it all hit..Well, the sight of my wallet, bank account and such just made me get a but fustrated.

So I was about to declare, but chatting with some others, I decided to try, wouldn't you know, the CC companies refuse to work with me, same with Car loan company...I made a fairly decent request to reset things (In their favor too) and yet, they gave me the middle finger salute.

So, I have no pity, no care about them..After all, I did make the attempt, but was rebuffed and so, they now suffer for their intolerant behavior...Hmmm..I wonder if???.....

We filed jointly-income is approximately $45,000 per year and we filed on about $65,000. That includes vehicles we gave back, does not include student loans of about $11,000 that will survive the BK. Only about $5,000 of that was credit cards.

Edited to add: family of 5, easily below the 'median'.

Most of my information is from personal experience or HOURS and HOURS of online research. When you're searching online, keep in mind there is no guarantee that the info is completely up to date, and your situation is unique from anyone else's. Do your homework, and consult with an attorney so you can make an informed decision.

        As of October 2005:
        Assets: $10k
        Liabilities: $100k
Income: less than $1k/month: part-time, hourly, temp work...
Expenses: more than $1k/month: just to survive...

Laid off 4 times in the past 7 years... income varied widely from year-to-year...
