    Better Access to PACER

Better Access to Public Court Records

RECAP is a free extension for Firefox that improves the experience of using PACER, the electronic public access system for the U.S. Federal District and Bankruptcy Courts. It:

    * Saves you money: Shows you when free documents are available
    * Helps you give back: Contributes to a public archive hosted by the Internet Archive
    * Keeps you organized: Gives you better filenames, enables useful headers

Doesn't "contributing to a public archive" mean that you are going to be tagging and putting your case info into a searchable public database?

My bk case is NOT something that I want people googling if at all possible.

It is very interested, but I'm not interested in giving back when it comes to Bankruptcy Cases. Sure, criminal cases in the U.S. District Court are a nice giveback. However, I won't contribute to publishing Bankruptcy Cases, even if they are "public".

Cool concept though. Again, I do like it for the U.S. District Court criminal cases.

I will not be using it or installing it.

I read up up on that myself, and the site specifically says that the databases are not searchable by Google or any other search engine. The only way someone can access it is by using pacer. If the document has already been retrieved, you will see a R next to it. You then click on it rather than Pacer's view document link and it retrieves it from an archive. As such, it's no different from someone using pacer to find out about you. The only difference is that you will not pay for a document that has already been retrieved.

It does make a lot of sense. I have spent a hundred of so $$$ looking at various cases. If I had used this tool, I could have possibly saved a bit and even assisted others in retrieving the documents for free. That is, since I paid for them anyway.
