75k Home Equity Exemption....CA?

I understand I can take a 75k home equity exemption.....do my wife and I both need to file to get it or could I file alone and still get the whole 75k just for being married?

Well being that California is a community property state it makes no sense for one of you to file and not the other as the creditors can go after the one that doesn't file.
