Move before BK file or wait till after?

So thanks for this great forum...

I am most likely gonna lose my home in my BK so I am going to need to rent a place sooner than later. My plan is to rent before BK file so I can answer their "Have you ever filed BK" question honestly. Is that the way to go or should I just wait until the last possible day and not worry about it? I have read that if you go with $$$ in hand to apply for a rental it can help "convince" the owner you are serious. I just don't want to end up renting in a real unsafe neighborhood due to my crappy credit that I no doubt, caused myself.

i would find something before you file. I spent almost a month searching for a decent place and we haven't filed yet. We haven't made payments on cc's since Feb, and had 2 cars repo'd. Most property management and owners won't rent to you if you have a recent BK (mostly the prop mgmt). I found an owner owned house on craigslist and the people liked us, and we offered to pay them 2 months rent in advance to rent to us. I would try and stay away from larger security deposits, because they can be easy to lose. But advance rent is usually just as good for them. It just took us awhile to find something in a good area, because most was through property management and they didn't want derogotory credit or BK's. There was plenty to rent in bad areas- but if you're picky it may take awhile.. good luck

Thanks for the advice..Yes I work near a rough area of Detroit and really don't want to end up living here...lol I will most likely look for a private owner rental and see how it goes. I have time though...only 4 mo. past due on CC's so it may be a while yet...but then again..not sure these days.

Just planning everything out for life after BK. Glad you were able to find something for your family as well.
