Well I almost hired two idiots. I don't usually ask too much, I let them talk. The first one had ideas but when I asked why didn't seem to have an answer ready. Or he said "I think it'll be better to do this or that" I want to hear THIS IS WHY.
Then he lost my whole file. Gone.
Second guy was a wack job. He was thinking out loud but at a million ideas a minute. He seemed like an a$$hole. But he assured me everything was going to be ok, we'll figure something out. I thought that was good since he had a million ideas spewing out. Recommended no income chapter 13........
The attorney I have now I actually consulted two years ago.
I sat down and he asked all the key questions. I was going to lose a lot of stuff so I decided not to file. I found work for a while.
18 months after I stopped paying, everything was sold to try to keep current on my bills, I was going to be sued by a cc so I decided bk is my only choice.
So I called this guy again and he asked me the standard questions over the phone. I wasn't ready yet.
I called again and he asked questions, I wasn't ready yet. I called again to ask questions, one more thing to do. Not once did he get upset with me, here I was just some guy calling never said I was going to hire him or anything.
The day came, I called, said I spoke to him several times and I believe I'm ready now. Came in a week later. He asked the questions, grabbed the packet that all the other ones had me take home, he asked me the questions and filled it out.
He made a specific list of what I needed to bring back. After the weekend I brought it all back. He asked questions, had me sign a bunch of papers, he filled out the means test based on my answers to his questions.
And that was it, I'll be filed in two to three days and the 341 meeting will be in about 6 weeks.
I knew he was the guy because at the first consultation I asked some dumb questions and he answered them without hesitation or judgement, every question I ever asked him he just answers right away.
No one knows how to value a car, I asked 100 people and got 200 different answers, this guy never answered specifically. He told me the way it goes. At the 341 they look at what I own and ask what it's worth, thats it, if they want to argue the value tell them how you valued it, he said they can still go as far as requiring me to take it to their wholesaler and if he says it's worth over exempt I can pay the difference or give it up.
There was no 'its all going to be ok, just hand me your money' BS.
And when we're talking if we start to talk at the same time he stops and lets me talk first.
I could go on, but I think you get the idea.
