    HELP finding a reliable lawyer

I need help changing my present lawyer , I fully paid him his fee and he hasn't filed since January. It appears to me he is over his head with cases that he can't handle.

Now how can I change him, and can some one recommend me a lawyer in the New york area who handles consumer personal bankruptcies? I really appreciate your help

    Thank you

Did you sign a retainer agreement where your attorneys services and timeline are spelled out?

The National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys http://nacba.com is a place to search for attorneys in your area.

yes, I signed bunch of papers in his office , paid appraisal's fee , filing fee and his fee , but at the time I had total confidence in him and thought he would do a good job but, i guess I was wrong.

Now , since I learned my lesson , how can I pick from where I left, and look forward to finding a reliable and honest lawyer who will really fight for you.

and how can I claim my money back from this lawyer I have now? would it be lost? or my future lawyer can help me get money back?

Someone can PM you with New York attorney recommendations but we do not post nor condone names/recommendations of attorneys/firms in online postings in this forum. call your State Bar Association for names of reputable attorneys in your area. You may not be able to get any fees back that you paid him as to his services if he did actual work for you but you should be able to get the filing fee back. You can file a complaint if you wish with the Bar Association if you are not happy with how he handled your matter and you can ask how to do that when/if you call to get other attorney names. Best of luck to you.

You might try a certified letter to him explaining your frustration with his inaction. Give him three choices, (1) Get to business and get to work. (2) Return all of your monies including filing fees to be used with a lawyer who wishes to earn your money. (3) Do one or the other or you will make a complaint against him to your State Bar. One of these should get his attention. 'Hub
