    BK friendly insurance companies?

We need to save as much as possible seeing dh is still out of work. I had to have surgery so am out of work for a good 6 weeks.
Our property taxes went up so they have raised our mortgage payment $63( shortage and new amount)Its to late to fight the inrease in taxes.

We are hoping to get a better rate on our homeowners and or auto ins. I was told some ins co are using credit scores/financial status. Including American Family, Progressive and Allied. Does anyone know what Ins co(s) do not use that?

My rate with Geico was the same as it was before I filed and I just renewed.

      Geico!!

Geico definitely does not check (or care, if they do check). We just bought a new (used) car one week out of bk, switched our insurance to Geico, and saved $550 a year from what we paid last year. Yeah!!! Plus they are great to work with.

Found this while asking for a quote...

In connection with this insurance rate quote and any renewal of insurance, we may obtain or use a credit-based insurance score based on the information contained in your credit report. We may use a third party in connection with the development of your insurance score.

Well here it seems Geico uses Liberty Mutual. Who we have now. So I guess that doesn't help us. LOL

What you need to find out is if your state allows insurance credit profiling. If it does not, you should be quoted rates at the normal rate; if they are high and you believe they are the result of a BK or bad credit, contact your State DOI (Dept. of Insurance). Everyone should check this because many states have eliminated the practice and if you believe your rates rise due to bad credit or a BK, contact your State DOI as to what to do.

Would the insurance agent know this? He said he didn't agree with it but many co's are doing it. Playing around on Geico I put in dh unemployed then
changed it back to employed. It saved us over a $100 a year.
So if dh gets a job it looks like switching to Geico might save us on our auto ins. (though thats w/o running a credit check)But our homeowners would be the same.

Don't ask the agent...look in the phone book under your state section and call the Department of Insurance. Your state also should have a website - look for the insurance dept. on there also and see if anything is posted. Insurance agents will tell you anything...go to the correct source.

That is total b/s. I was an insurance agent for 3 years and always was above board and honest with my clients. Not ALL sales people are scum. And a good independent agent is probably your best bet for finding good rates and the chance of good service and representation if/when you need to use the insurance. Also a good agent will know the states laws you ar ein and any other they operate in. They need to know this to keep themselves out of trouble and represent you and the needs you convey to them.
