I'm sorry but I have to vent and I’m sorry to whoever may be reading this. I have been looking for full-time employment for the better part of 9 months now and I can't tell you how disgusted I am. First of all "I WANT" to work very badly and it's almost gotten to the point where family and friends are thinking that I don't! I can't count the number of times that I have had multiple interviews with the employer only to hear we don't foresee any problems once your background check is completed. Now, I would like to disclose that I usually broach the subject so they are not surprised to see my bankruptcy on my credit report (i.e. financial problems, etc). With a 100% rate, once this is done I no longer hear from the employer. I have Bachelor's degree, solid work experience (now with this ever growing gap in employment), military experience and I can't find a job. I've followed all the steps, networking, online, resume/cover-letter workshops, checked my references to make sure they are solid and it's still nothing. I'm not setting my standards high at all; I’ve been applying for jobs that I could easily get in high school(Part-time grocery, etc) and I can't apparently land those positions. Of course my filing was primarily caused by my lack of income during this time. To keep sane I try to keep my mind off the job that I don’t have and work-out at least a few hours a day along with my daily job searches. While all of this isn't meant to be a poor me it's just a growing and growing disgust at how useless, invaluable, and hopeless you can feel when you don't have an income coming in. In closing I sure hope that things turn around because at this point it’s looking dim.

Can I ask why you are even mentioning the bankruptcy?
I can't imagine the jobs you are applying for running your credit at all durring the background search. I have had many jobs even the ones paying $60k-$100k/year have never checked my credit.
I have never worked in the financial sector however, I assume it is more common there.

I guess I have mentioned it on jobs because I wanted to be up-front and honest with them. Do I go out of my way to mention it? NOT at all. It's only if they mention we need to do a background/credit check that I feel the need to disclose (very briefly) and I never mention the bankruptcy per se just that I have had some previous financial difficulties (primarily due to medical bills, etc).Filing: 4/10/2009, 341: 5/18/2009

I believe honesty is the best policy.
I think you are handling it properly.
There are many out of work and unemployment is expected to rise for the next year. Indeed it might be worth seeing if you could get back in school for a couple months and see if you could improve your degree slightly.
Things are rough out there, keep trying and keep hitting the pavement with your feet. Something will come to you.May 31st, 2007: Petition Filed by my lawyer

DH has gotten hired for 2 jobs this past year that required background checks. We are just getting ready to file BK. But our credit report is crap due to stopping paying on all cc and other loans since last fall. So he got hired with a bad credit report, and he never mentioned to the employer anything at all concerning our financial situation (which is due to DH job loss 2 yr. ago).Filed BK Chapter 7 - 11/12/10 341 Meeting - 01/07/11

I've had my background/credit ran for 2 jobs since I filed. I never mentioned it, but both of the interviewers brought it up in the 2nd interview. It shows up plain as day, smack dab in the middle of the report. One job I didn't get, but one I did. I explained it as "bad real estate investments" and very proudly said that it was just a hiccup in the road and that I am back on track now.
Keep looking - don't give up.Chapter 7 filed 10/21/2008
