    Buying a temp car

With my filing I am going to include my present car in the BK. So I am looking at buying a temp car at a local auction to use to get back and forth to work until the BK is completed. Since the car won't be worth more the$500-700 is there any chance I could lose it in the BK? Should I have my sister buy the car and title it in her name?

Check the exemptions for your state, you should be able to exempt a car as long as it fits in the exemption amount for a vehicle. www.legalconsumer.com has the exemptions

      What about

What happens if I buy the car after I file? I want to get filed and with it costing $300 it may take me a pay check or two before I can get the temp replacement car.

What kind of car can you get for $700 ??? A 1980 rusted Chevy Chevette??

A temp car to get you thru a year post discharge would cost about $5,000 - $8,000.

Still $500 for temp transport?? You probably should just rent a car for the timebeing or borrow one. Something costing $500 wouldn't be safe to drive

That's insane. Do some looking around - we bought our DD a 96 Nissan for $2,400 that even had new tires on it - we've only had to do basic maintenance on it and it runs great, plus she gets about 35 mpg. She just took it in to have it all checked out last week, nothing looked like it was needed replacement, except the usual - air filter, etc. We bought DH a 93 Toyota 4Runner last year for $3,000. We put about $1,000 into it, which included a new bumber and some cosmetic (unnecessary) stuff - it too runs fine and had new tires on it. The deals are out there.

            Car auction

We have a car auction here in Indy I have scouted out the last two weeks. Some nice running cars and none for more then $1000. Talked to a guy where I work, he bought one there a few years back and ran for over 1.5 years. At this auction last week they sold a 86 neon with only 86000 miles and in great condition for 1100. A mini van with some minor rust went for $250. All I need is a car to get me to work and back, don't have any money to do anything else.
