    Filing tomorrow -- very nervous

My lawyer is filing my Chapter 7 tomorrow, bringing six months of stress and worry to a close...kind of. My stress level has skyrocketed this week because I keep worrying that something will go wrong with the filing, like I forgot a creditor or the trustee will have a problem with my exemptions. My lawyer and I went through the paperwork front to back before we signed off on it, but still, I'm freaking out. Plus, I'm surrendering my car in the BK, which is hard for me, and I'm moving to a new place this weekend (downsizing from a two-bedroom apartment to a 200-sq. ft. efficiency), so there's stress all around.

How many other people have found themselves more stressed out than ever at the time of filing? Is it a normal reaction? I feel like I'm embarking on a new chapter in my life and while it's a good thing, it's also very difficult. In fact, it's harder than I thought it would be.

It's a normal reaction, just know that you are moving forward.
Hang in there, it'll be over before you know it

I just filed last month and I'm still stressing! I'm waiting on confirmation and it worries me that it may not go through as we would like. And then tonight, at first I thought my bank balance was in the red and I have been so careful checking it daily now that I'm not using credit cards. It ended up that I'm not in the red but oh sooooo close that I'm checking hourly for my pay check to be deposited to beat the debit for gas that I got today. Then I worry that my very old vehicles won't make it through our plan and I stay up late thinking about things. One month down for me in my 36 month plan! On a positive note, this worrying is less than it was when I was struggling to pay my $107K in unsecured debt each month. Way less so I guess it is getting better!

Well, I'm officially filed. My lawyer filed my petition electronically this afternoon.

Now I get to worry about the 341 meeting. :::sigh:::

pdx, it has to be a real relief as well, yes? I hope so. I know what you mean, I had a good 6 mo. of stress prior to the actual filing.
The creditors will stop calling now.
It sound like you've got things more under control with the decision to get rid of the car and the move.
Things can only get better from here.

Your 341 meeting will be no sweat, and you lawyer will prep you with any questions the Trustee may have and sometimes they even talk ahead of time.
Make sure you have ID and social security card all set for that meeting, you'll be notified soon when it will be.

Feel better and congrats on making this decision.
Much thanks for all the support and information I receive on this forum.

Thanks. And yes, it is a relief. Just a bittersweet one.

I actually know when my 341 will be: August 3. My lawyer called me about a half hour after he filed the paperwork with the information. I even know which trustee I'm getting and my lawyer gave me some background on him so I have some idea of what to expect. (He also gave me some 341 coaching at my signing meeting.) I think I picked a good lawyer, thank God.

                pdx:

Sorry I missed this post. I believe the preparation in filing is the worst. I'm sure you are so relieved.

I've been at it since we met with our Attorney late last Sept. and we won't be able to file until 9/30/09. Had some monies that would be deemed taxable and because the stock market tanking, my last monthly check was in Feb.

I'm a long, long way from getting everything organized. Reading and posting since Oct. (under hubby's name) on this forum has really helped me to understand the process of bankruptcy.

I believe the 'Easy 341s' outweigh the complicated 341s who post on this forum. So I would say your 341 will be a breeze. I know one thing, we need to keep in mind, is our closing may not occur in the normal timeline as there are so many more bankruptcies being filed.

                Good Luck

                Luci

Congratulations on filing! I know that it has been a really rough road for you to get here - just look, pretty soon you will be discharged and you can put this time behind you.

Well, the BK is starting to appear on my credit reports. And my score actually went up! Granted, it was only three points, but still....
