Hugs to you... I'm so sorry that you are going through this. Right now you have much more pressing concerns than filing for BK. Focus on getting a place to live and getting steady on your feet before thinking about a BK. Call your credit card companies and tell them you are homeless and need a hardship deferral. If they won't give you one, then stop paying them. Right now, focus on getting yourself on solid ground. Do you have any friends you could live with while you are getting on your feet? Can you live on campus? Do you have any relatives (besides your parents) who might be willing to help you out for a bit? I would also highly recommend you find out what resources are available to you in your area. You might want to start with a college counselor, explain your situation and see what options they have for you. There should be programs in place to help students in hard times.
On a separate note, I am horrified at the thought of parents kicking their child out to become homeless. Just remember that someday your parents may need your help and I suspect that this incident will come to your mind. I wish you all the best.
Please find out about resources in your area and what you can do to get yourself someplace to live. Keep us updated on your situation. Hang in there. Hugs.

Bob,
You have all of my sympathy. I went through something very similar at your age, in the cold winters of Wyoming, no less, so I can relate a little.
I agree with the previous poster, you have bigger things to worry about than BK in the near future. I understand your concerns over your credit rating, and they are valid concerns, but you should never sacrifice the necessities of a roof over your head and food in your mouth to pay the credit card companies.
If you live in a community with homeless shelters, please look into them. Not all are the derlict places you see depicted in media. Some are better than others of course, but any one can help in some fashion.
There are online groups that can help in other ways, like:
These folks can feed you for something like 60 dollars per month, but you would still need someplace to store, refrigerate and cook.
Perhaps you can rent an apartment over a garage or a multi-roommate situation near the college? These arrangements can be very economical.
In any case, keep your head up my friend. Your efforts WILL pay off one day, and pursuing education through all of this shows the strength of your inner character. You don't indicate, I don't think, whether you are still in school. If you are, that is incredible. If you are not, I hope you will take the steps to get back in as soon as possible.
Good luck, and please keep us posted, and feel free to ask any questions at all.11-20-09-- Filed Chapter 7
