    Bank accounts and BK.

Just wanted to know if I should have my wife clear out her accounts if I am going to file for bankruptcy? She has money in a few accounts that I am not on, however, I wouldn't want anything to happen to her accounts because I am filing. Obviously we aren't filing together, but I just want to be sure that her accounts will not be affected.

Also, how long before filing bankruptcy should I clear out the little money that I have in my account?

Depending on your state, being a (oops I forget the term) marital property state (must be my oldtymers) it could be construed as hiding assets. If she does this, do it sooner than later. (Joint property?) (still can't come up with it). Anyway, of course, your lawyer would know, but I would protect any assets you have and any liquidation of funds should be in exempt stuff. Food, bills, blankets, heating, etc. Not in stuff like large screen lcd TV's, etc. 'Hub
If I knew it all, would I be here?? Hang in there = Retained attorney 8-06, Filed 12-28-07, Discharge 8-13-08, Finally CLOSED 11-3-09, 3-31-10 AP Dismissed, Informed by incompetent lawyer of CLOSED status, October 14, 2010.

I think you're thinking community property state.
      Filed 5/29/09
      Discharged 9/14/09

We don't have any assets, but my wife does have a bit of money stashed in her accounts.
