Steps in Finding a Good Lawyer....

Hello Everyone,
it has been really comforting seeing that there is relief from events beyond our control, through all of you who post in this website.

We are located in NYC.

We've had a crazy past two years, but about 6 months or so with the unpayable debt.

We received a law suit notice from Discover Card - via an attorney/collector, and the courthouse. And now we are thinking that we may not have much choice but to file BK.

1. I would appreciate guidance in what to do about the this suit.
2. And most importantly, i would greatly appreciate advice in how to find a good lawyer, where to check, and so forth. Even at this site .... i did not seem to locate a section on finding good lawyers.

I used an attorney recommended to me by my divorce lawyer.
Perhaps you work with another professional that can suggest a name? Another lawyer or even a tax accountant can probably make a suggestion.

Unfortunately not. We have not had the need of working with professionals extensively, and the ones we have were not exactly trustworthy .... this is NYC the land "bordering fraudulent" lawyers, among other "bordering fraudulent" things.

However, i am certain there are the handful of good lawyers as well, just a matter of finding these.

I used an attorney/firm in NJ, I am quite certain they work NY cases as well, PM me if you would like the referral.
