Renting a condo or apt after discharge?

How difficult will it be with my BK discharged and my foreclosure starting?

Should I move one month before the sale date so that when I apply I can truthfully say I have not been foreclosed on?

I've recently started looking at leasing options and so far, it hasn't been looking so good. I've contacted the leasing offices for two different condos I was looking to rent and neither would consider leasing to me. One of the offices told me they will not rent to BKers until two years post-discharge. I expected that some additional terms might be included (higher deposit, higher rent, etc.) but that wasn't the case. I'm very frustrated considering that I've been with my current employer for seven years and have had a great rental history over the last year. None of that seemed to matter.

From what I understand, though, you may find it easier to rent from private parties, as they don't always do credit checks.

    Good luck!

I dealt with having crappy credit for quite a while before I started the BK process.

In that time, I've rented two apartments. One I found by looking in the newspaper (private party, like Cupcake suggested). And the second one (the one I'm in now) I found on Craigslist. I would definitely suggest both routes.

I was honest and explained that I have bad credit, but have never been evicted and have always paid my rent. I was actually trying to move before my 341 meeting, but decided to renew my lease for another year, since I knew I wouldn't have to go through the application process again.

      Best to you, BillyRip.

I see attitudes changing for people that have filed though.
Many have done so with good reason and many landlords need renters.
You cannot file again for some time and they know it.
Here in our town many left when the "boom" in housing ended last summer resulting in many rentals coming open along with abandoned homes that banks would be glad to have someone in.
I live in an above average duplex and the vacancies here take time to fill.
