For those on Check systems ( like me )

I have insomnia tonight so I was looking around.

Apparently Wells Fargo has a second opportunity checking account that give us another chance at a checking account with them.

I will be calling them tomorrow.

My company checks are drawn on WF and it is a royal pain in the you know what every month so I hope to open an account and avoid holds on the check deposit.
Very fortunate in the grand scheme of things but have learned my lesson.

    Filed 12/15/08, 341 1/12/09, Cont to 2/12/09, cont to 3/12/09, cont to 4/15/09, cont to 5/11/09, cont to 6/02/09. Discharged 9/16/09, Closed 10/23/09

Jazz,, I have some very good news for you!

Order your chex report now,you can do it online.

As soon as you are discharged, print your discharge order off of PACER,mail it in with the dispute form from Chex and your Chex report will be clean in a couple of weeks.

Did it myself, clean report came a couple days ago.

No problemo. Just be sure to dispute every entry, you don't even need to mail your matrix, just the discharge order.

They do have a "second chance" account; it's called the opportunity checking (also have opportunity savings). There's a couple of annoying things about this account.

      1. You can't do deposits at the ATM (have to go in to see a teller)
      2. You can't do "cash back" from a check; you deposit the whole check and can withdraw from your account only
      3. More frequent holds on non WFB checks (won't hold your payroll)

I'm just letting you know; because a lot of employees don't share all the details for a new customer in opportunity..

Also, there would be no monthly service fee if you do a $25 transfer from Checking to savings once a month..

I did the same thing and they took off all entries (I had four, but two were the same entry, so really only three). They even took off one that I didn't dispute because it wasn't showing on my report yet when I initially ordered it.

I am going into the WF branch near my house. I spoke to someone there who said that it is definitely worth a try.

Our business accounts are with WF so that may help.

I will report back later today.

Is their a Fidelity branch near you.
You can get a Fidelity checking (Smart Cash Account) while you are on CS. They don't even check.

They are great if they have branches near you. They return all ATM fees charged, free checks for life, visa debit card and a small amount of interest on balances.

You don't have to have a brokerage account to get one, PM me if you need more info.

I have an Opportunity Checking & Savings account with Wells Fargo and I love it.

The restrictions that Jribe mentioned are true, but I was notified of them all before I opened the account. The upside to it all is that the restrictions aren't there forever. After some time (I forget how long it is), it turns into a "regular" account.

you don't get automatically upgraded. you have to be run through chexsystems and clear; and then those accounts must be closed and you get a new checking/savings account number. They can't just covert these type of accounts. There's no specified time frame.. They used to say "six months to a year" but if you're still on chexsystems- they won't give you regular accounts.

If you have a Woodforest National Bank near you, they offer a second chance checking. Believe it or not, right before we filed BK and our credit was horrible, because we hadn't bounced any checks we were eligible for their free checking account. But even if we hadn't been eligible, they did offer second chance checking. They are unlike other banks in that they have much better hours and the money you deposit is available immediately. After nightmares with other banks, we are happy with the one we have now.

I went into the WF branch and interestingly enough they declined me because I charged off a business debt, no other reason. They never even mentioned Check systems.

The guy was real nice and he said to come back after the BK was over.

I opened up a Fidelity account where I have my IRA.

My Wamu account is still thankfully intact and active.
