    Cable.

I have 4 kids and sometimes Yo Gabba Gabba is the best part of the day, LOL.

I am willing to make whatever adjustments I need to, and in truth, I would give up cable, but we have a good budget and that doesn't look necessary at this point. It's worth the expense.

OMG! My husband is gone usually Sun am - Fri pm and if we didn't have Satellite and DVR he would be one unhappy person. He loves Wrestling and Nascar.

This past Saturday, the Nascar race was on Fox & Dish Network was having problems with our local channels. He got so upset he sent an email to Dish and Fox. By golly, Fox sent an email the next morning saying it was a Dish Satellite problem. Dish sent an email apologizing for the several long interruptions of the race.

          [QUOTE=BkinTX;276964]Cable.

Ok now that I have asked the question I have to admit I am hanging my head low feeling bad! I didn't think of cable as something I could give up. I think of cable like food. I would slit my wrists! I did give up my movie channels. I also have cut down our cell phone minutes. WOW this week alone I have cut $100.00 out of my budget by taking away HBO and extra cell phone minutes. Maybe I can get my hair cut and colored. I miss that the most but I do it myself right now. YUCK!

I'm with ya there! I only have three. Two cats and a 75lb "lap dog." The dog is actually pretty cheap to maintain. He doesn't like toys and I cook his food. The kitties are a little more with food and litter expenses but it's not that much. They bring me so much peace and laughter, the things I've lost don't seem to matter that much. Right now I'm using my dog as a pillow to prop up my back while I type

I'm with the other people on shoes though until recently, I hadn't bought a new pair in over two years. Luckily the ones I had bought two years ago were high quality and still hanging in there. I broke my foot in a few places a few years back and if I don't have the right arch and side support I'll be limping for days from a bad pair of shoes.

I have considered ditching my phone but it's $250 to cancel and my bill is only $45/mo. I barely use it, but it's nice to have for emergencies and when I'm out with the kids, JIC.

We have to examine all aspects of our life, beyond the 4 necessities of life: Food, Shelter, Clothing, and Fuel we should be willing to cut anything else in order to meet our needs in those areas. If we aren't willing to do that then we could find ourselves back in the same situation again in a few years down the road.

The hardest thing for me to give up has been splurging for Christmas. I took on extra work the past 2 years now that we're in our CH 13 so that we could still have lots of presents under the tree. I want to be able to give this up, after all, the holiday shouldn't be about consumerism, but still spent way too much, at least in my mind. (My overtime in the fall paid $1200, and I spent about $1500 so was able to stay within my budget, but still...) I've already signed up for the extra hours again (I'm a teacher and we teach the extra 1 credit hour class in the fall semester and get paid on our Nov paycheck) so I guess this is a habit I can't give up, at least not yet.

Hey, if we all gave up our internet, what would happen to the forum?

Seriously, I gave up eating out, having my hair cut/colored at a stylist I used for ten years, I never buy myself new clothes, I eliminated my makeup/perfume obsession at Sephora, when I was working I was brownbagging it and always brought my own coffee - just ask Ramsey about that daily latte, ha ha, etc.

I won't give up a cell phone (I'm a woman driving with children - $25 a month is not worth potential safety issues), some type of TV service (I take whatever is cheapest), the internet (required for dh's work anyway), buying decent food (this society sucks in that we allow big business, etc. to sell crap food so cheaply so that the truly impoverished have to suffer from future health problems as well - people should be eating fresh produce, fish, etc.), and my children's activities. My daughter takes dance class and my son takes karate. I will not take that away from them if I can help it. I'll cut everything I can of my own before I do that.

Heck, I gave up my house. And I think I'm happier for it. I will never be house rich and cash poor again.
                      over $100K cc debt,$20K taxes,$332K mortgages/value $190K,surrendered
                      Confirmed, $801/month 56 down,4 to go

I can go without most things except.....

Tuition for my daughter to private school. My wife and I agreed we would go without whatever we have to make sure she can go where religon is part of her education. We struggle with how liberal the public schools are.

We will even grow things to sell at the farmers market to buy the uniforms!

Myself, I just have certain things like; Real Mayonase, Real Butter and good coffee, i do not buy starbucks i buy, grind and make my own, $3-4 for a coffe is nuts anyway. There just is certain food you can not go completely cheap on. We hunt and usually put up five or so deer a year and plant a large garden to can, so our regular lifestyle is not extravagant. I was raised pretty conservative so going without the things you want is easy.

My truck has over 245k miles on it and I can maintain it for the most part. I stopped worrying about what I drove and how it looked years ago when I figured I would be keeping my wife around anyway so I did not need to impress anyone anymore!

What a fun thread. Honestly, I have to think about this one and come back. We started shopping at Walmart instead of more upscale grocery stores, I never buy new clothes, we cut out cable (that we are adding back after a year - long story). At first blush though I would have to say I don't want to give up my Disney timeshare and my Blackberry (her name is Molly). I pay for a data plan but get a nice discount because of where I work.

We have already talked about surrending DH's car and buying a "work" vehicle for him and we are considering giving up the house as well. Sounds silly probably to seriously consider keeping a timeshare but giving up our house - until I started a budget recently I didn't realize just how expensive being a homeowner really is!

Gonna give this one some more thought and come back.

I would have to say that I would hate to give up my hair stylist. I put it off for as long as I can...but I will still sacrifice other things to get a more expensive hair cut. I have tried the classic cheap "chop shops" and it just isn't the same. Oh, and I love my Diet Coke too
