Been over this 100x's I know!

Please help me figure this out:

1 checking account at
3 kids savings accounts
1 business checking account
HELOC
Overdraft protection
All at National City. My husbands social sec. check and my kids social sec. checks go into this checking account. I had a brain fart 2 months ago and allowed Discover to take money right out of my checking once a month. I also have stupid things coming out of there. I have $16.00 in there but my account became OD and the bank put money in from my overdraft protection. I know we need to close this account but WHEN and I have to wait for the Social Sec. to get switched over to a new account which could take awhile for them to get it right from what I have heard.

We also have a checking account from Wachovia (we lived in FL for a year and no National City on the West Coast)
I do have a car loan with them which is current and I plan on keeping this car should I also close out this account.

Determine what bank you want to use. Some require $100 for each new account. Call some banks and ask them how much $ required to open a new account.

Once you have the account number and the Bank's routing number, you can use the link below to change the SS checks direct deposit. Since it takes awhile (I think when we moved, in 12/07 it took 2 mths. for my SSD check to be deposited in the new bank), I would switch banks this next week.

Here is the link to change SS direct deposits. If you haven't set up accounts for each SS receiptent, you will need to do so to change the bank account online.
