Is it an average of your last 6 months of employment or does each individual month have to be below the means?

No, each month does not have to be below. You can make $50,000 one month and nothing the next five. ( although you'd have some splainin to do on that I would imagine.)Very fortunate in the grand scheme of things but have learned my lesson.
