I will try to keep this brief. Thanks in advance for your responses.
I have several judgements (three, I think) against me due to poor management of my credit cards. After receiving the judgements, I happened to move to a different part of the state and opened a new bank account with a credit union.
Two months ago, I had a garnishment waiting for me when I checked my balance online. Unfortunately it was just after making a $300 deposit to my account to cover some checks. Fortunately, however, my balance was brought to just over $300. The bank allowed me a $300 exemption, and only ended up taking $20 from my account. It was very lucky for me as I had not yet had my paycheck direct deposited as I had intended to get set up that month.
Anyway, long story short, I never allow myself to have more than $300 in there. In fact, the same company tried again this month with another garnishment, but with only .52 in my account, they did not get anything this time either.
I use netspend for all my bill paying, travel, etc. anywhere I need a credit card.
I am currently getting a paper paycheck, cashing it at the bank it is drawn on, and then depositing in netspend as necessary for immediate use.
My question...
Is it safe to direct deposit my check into Netspend? Has anyone had that account garnished before? I suspect it IS possible, so I have not gone forward with that, but it really would be easier on me to have direct deposit.
Can I trust NetSpend for DD? I would never use a conventional bank. I dont know how they even figured out where I bank after I moved, but they did. It would be disastrous to lose a paycheck.
Along those same lines, has anyone had a stock account like E-Trade garnished? I am talking about BEFORE any sort of creditor meeting where I have to tell them all my assets. That has never happened to me.
thanks!
