Met with the lawyer this afternoon

So, we've paid the retainer and hired ourselves a lawyer. I was SO nervous waiting for the appointment, but after talking to him for a bit I felt a LOT better. He's been doing bk here for 30 years and knows all the trustees. Even though he comes off as low-key, I got the sense that his courtroom demeanor is very different. We went through the basic info and he said nothing jumped out at him. I have to get him more info and then he'll run the means test to ensure we're good for a Ch7.

I wish I could snap my fingers and be six months in the future, but at least I know we've taken the first real step. Thanks to everyone here on the forum--the lawyer seemed impressed with my knowledge and the questions I asked.

If your lawyer is impressed then you did your homework! Good job...A+++++. We all wish that we could just hurry up and get it over with...but this is the price we all gotta pay.

glad to hear you are in good hands.

mine lawyer was similar, she actually discussed my case with the trustee at a Christmas party. ugh ! but at least she knew what to expect, and that calmed me down quite a bit.
