I have used either TT or TaxAct for years and haven't had any problems. My taxes are easy & straightforward however.

At one time or another you have to decide to go with the flow.
In today's economy one never knows which business will be in business next week let alone 3 years from now when you need to file an amended return.
I am not old enough to have talked with my Grandmother in the early 50's!Well, I did. Every one of 'em. Mostly I remember the last one. The wild finish. A guy standing on a station platform in the rain with a comical look in his face because his insides have been kicked out. -Rick

And that's what confused me. Our return was very straight forward and I have never had a problem in the past.
Just all of the sudden the facts and figures changed on the website reflecting different amounts.
Neither the IRS nor the State said anything so I am assuming that they did not get forwarded these bogus filings copies.

I purchase the disk. I would never leave all my financial information on-line with a third party... free or not.
Oh wait... I file "through" TurboTax.Chapter 7 (No Asset/Non-Consumer) Filed (Pro Se) 7/08 (converted from Chapter 13 - 2/10)

I've done this myself after filing to see what it would changed if i ammended it for something, or if income was different etc.
And note that these returns were amended around 3-6 weeks after the electronic filing took place.
That is what was confusing.
But then when the outfit refused to answer several emails questioning what was going on??? I have to figure they don't care to answer ( how do you want to say "I won't put it in writing for you to publish") for their errors and incompetence so I will no longer do business with them.

Errrrr Hmmm
I've always purchased Turbo Tax at Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Staples or places similar. I've used them for at least 15 yrs. even more.
I've never had a problem with their software. But, I didn't print our returns this year, because money was tight around that time. When you use their cd it places it on your hard drive and you are allowed to save your returns there, until at which time, you may save them on a separate disk or in pdf format & remove the program from your hard drive. I also prepare some of my family's taxes.
Everytime, you open Turbo Tax, it asks if you would like Turbo Tax to check for updates. I think I will be printing those returns this week and when asked to check for updates, will answer no.
Kenshirley: Did you possibly file your tax return real early in the year? and mebbe some updates were performed?? If you did file early & remember the date, possibly Turbo Tax might be able to tell you what specific updates were performed?
Just trying to help.

And justbroke, the bad news is that TT has your records stored on their computers as you filed with them online. I am betting that if you went to their website and signed for for access to TT online that you could access for records for any year you filed with them.
But online security is not my issue with them and never was. It just ticked us off to find out just a few weeks after the filing that our official records on file with them had changed.
That and coupled with the fact that they would not respond to emails as to why and if that information had been forwarded to the taxing authorities.
I have my filing date of course and that's the date I printed my forms, and the original version of course. And my payment to the feds and the refund from the state reflect what my forms say, not their version.
It's just all rather strange to us and we will not use them again.
