    alimony

    Hi;
    I am receiving alimony and I do not work .
    I have about 80k cc debt, I am still current but due to
    astronomical APR , I will stop to pay soon.
    I do not own anything and do not want to file bk .
    Can collectors, if they sue me, obtain a judgment
    to garnish part of my alimony ?
    thanks for the input

    me too - Alimony and do not work full-time.
    The cc's killed me too.
    I filed for ch7 and it worked out,
    what is the alimony income.
    It should work out for you.
    Was it during the divorce that the cc bills increased?
    Much thanks for all the support and information I receive on this forum.

      Same situation here. Alimony and Child support - I don't work right now; I'm a full time student and mom to a special needs teenager.

      In most states alimony and child support are exempt from garnishment. I am waiting to file BK until I finish school, have a job and can support myself and my son 100% and have HEALTH INSURANCE. It may be 6 months, a year, maybe longer until I file. I have about $75K in unsecured CC debt, $45K of which is joint with my ex spouse. He filed a CH7 in Novemeber...his last day for objections is actually this Friday. The joint creditors are after me for all the joint debt (as I expected).

      The $30K in individual debt is mostly attorney's fees from the divorce. The ex is supposed to owe the attorney's fees to me in our divorce agreement, but if I can discharge it all when I file I won't make an issue of it.

      Your domestic support is not garnish able as far as I know.
