    7 or 10 years

I keep reading that a chapter 7 takes 10 years to come off and a chapter 13 takes 7.

In the case of a 13, is that 7 years from the date of discharge? So really it could be 10 or 12 years, and longer than the 7?

I am concerned about qualifying for college loans at that time for our kids. Thanks.

    You read correctly.

It's from the date of the filing of the petition.

Remember, it's for the actual "public record" itself, and not for your derogatory accounts. Your derogatory accounts (actual credit accounts) should fall off after 7 years from the last activity date. If they don't, just file a discrepancy.
    Chapter 7 (No Asset/Non-Consumer) Filed (Pro Se) 7/08 (converted from Chapter 13 - 2/10)
