Credit Score increased 75 points, filed 2 1/2 months ago

OK, so it was a "faco" Credit Karma score, BUT when we checked the real-deal in November 08 as well as Credit Karma, the Credit Karma score was the same score as Trans Union, so I feel confident that its is reasonably accurate, close enough, anyway so that the jump is for real.

    Credit Karma Score November 21st 08 = 594
    Credit Karma score February 11th 09 = 668

Filed CH 7 in late November 08, last day for objections is a few days away.

    Wow. Just Wow.

that's interesting... have you checked experian and equifax? Transunion is typical for not reporting all accounts; which usually results in a higher score than the others. I have seen a difference of 50-100 points..

No, I didn't want to spend any $$
What gave the score a bit more reliability (IMO) was that It was compared to the Credit Karma score pulled 2 months ago. On the "all three report we pulled in November there was a variance of about 25 points between scores. I realize transunion may be higher, what I was looking for was the change in the score before and after filing.

Congratulations! That's a terrific increase for just 2 -1/2 months.

Hey thanks for posting this, as I had not heard of credit karma. I am checking my scores through them now. I understand it might not be totally accurate, but am interested in the changes and as it rises I may pay to get it from the credit bureaus if needed!

            Update:
Last month my score was 618 and Credit Karma has me at 684... I am taking it with a grain of salt, but have been charging small amounts on a Macy's card that made it through bk. I charged a small purchase each of the past 3 months and paid in full the first 2 months. The last one was about $129 and my plan is to pay $100 and carry the small balance one month and then pay in full before charging again. I am hoping these things will help the score go upwards. And the purchases were all sale items we or the kids needed!
Life after Bk isn't so bad!

estreeter....note you just filed the end of November. Some information as to your filing may not yet have hit your credit reports. You will have a better handle on your score situation about 3 months after discharge. Your score can fluctuate while you are in active BK or at discharge so give it a few months and you will know exactly where you stand. At that time, make sure you get copies of all your credit reports and clean up as necessary. Right now it is too early to do so.

I did check all three with the yearly freebie. You get free yearly from all three but not a free fico LOL. Everything had "hit". I'll be sure to check again in 2-3 months though. Thanks.

                    Thanks for the input!

The variance between actual FICO and Credit Karma is the reason why I compared Credit Karma pre-filing cores to credit karma post filing scores. I don't see any reason to pay for the real FICO scores at this point. As long as I'm comparing apples to apples...(or Credit Karma to Credit Karma) I think the increase is a reasonably accurate measure, and it is free to check!

I definitely agree in regards to the "apples to apples" comparison! And why pay if you are monitoring for increases after bk...
Thanks again as I will be monitoring my score this way for now!

That is strange. I just got my credit score from Credit Karma and it came back at 608. I filed last month and the score from Trans Union came back at 475. I am taking too with a grain of salt but I can't believe my score will jump 133 points a little more than a month after filing bk. I will try this again when the discharge occurs in April.

                        Thanks!

In some cases this is not unusual depending when the filing hits your credit reports from my experience. We went from mid 400 scores to 600 after filing...and now are slowly on the rise!
