Will Bankruptcy Affect Getting New Job?

I recently filed a Ch 13 bankruptcy and am in the process of actively interviewing for a new job. My question is, has anyone here run into any issues getting hired after filing BK? I am interviewing for professional types of positions as a Financial Analyst, etc. I do not deal with money (other than counting and analyzing it) or want to work for banks, and it should not impact my job whatsoever. I have been working in this line of work for about 5 years.

I have a very promising interview this week with a pharmaceutical company that I really want to work for, I am just stressing that since most companies ask you to sign the Fair Credit Reporting form to consent to a credit check, it could cause an issue. I don't even know if they actually pull a credit report or if it's just all part of an overall background check, but I was just wondering. I do not have anything else other than this BK that would be viewed as negative in my background.

You should be fine..........some employers will not hire individuals with excessive unsecured debts or bad credit! e.g. Banks...........but since you've filed for BK they cannot discriminate you for this.

    Good Luck

Thanks for the response, I just had the interview yesterday and it went very well, my recruiter called me back and said they really liked me and want me to come back to meet with 2 more people at the Director level! So, I am very excited! It is with a pharmaceutical company, I really can't see why a BK would be an issue, other than the fact that I've read that employers sometimes use credit as a determination of whether a potential employee will be responsible, etc. The truth is, my BK is the result of a long term relationship with a guy that spent all my money and then left me with it, and now that I am on my own I know I will be more responsible that ever because I've learned an invaluable lesson! I know I've signed many of those Fair Credit forms when taking a new job, but I really don't know if they ever pulled a credit report on me. I would think my financial picture looked worse with all that debt than with the BK.

I just hope everything goes okay, I have my meeting at the court next Thursday and I just want everything with the Ch 13 to be approved, and to be able to move on with my life

Please keep posting on this interview

I am currently employed by the pharmaceutical company and find myself underwater with real estate, and considering filing chapter 13 to take care of these "upside down" properties, while I worry about my corporate american express account with my company. So please keep me posted, because you should get an AMEX as well, I really need to know whether anything with regard to your BK will come up and good luck with the job!!!
