Question about 12 myths about BK

However, if you're planning to buy a house or a car, you might want to do that before you file. Those loans will be tough to get, and the higher interest rate on such a large purchase would make a significant impact on your payments. Also, if you have a credit card with a zero balance on the day you file for bankruptcy, you don't have to list it as a creditor since you don't owe any money on it. That means you might be able to keep that card even after the bankruptcy.
    Now my question...

Just a quick question about this. I have a credit card that has never been activated, so; ZERO balance. We filed and are to be discharged as of Jan 19th 2009! Yea!! Anyways, do you think this card made it through BK? No I am not asking so we can go out and charge up all kinds of debt, I just do not like living without a emergency back up like if the furnace breaks down, etc...
I also never recieved anything from that company about the card being null and void. The card is through New Millenium Bank through my Pampered Chef buisness.

Just want to get some feedback on this if anyone else has had this happen.
    Thanks for input.

No, We had all cards cancelled even a 12K HSBC card account that was never activated. Card companies do checks all the time and once they see the BK its as good as gone. We never received anything from the card companies when they cancelled them but we checked our credit reports and the new unactivated account shows closed as well as all our other $0 balance cards. Get a copy of your credit report and you will see all thats going on.

That's the trouble with 0/zero balanced credit cards that are not listed in petitions. You will never find out if they're cancelled until you try to charge something on them and the cashier tells you "sorry, rejected". You might still be able to access their website, and see that the balance is 0/zero, but that website info will not tell you that it's actually cancelled.

You could test the card by buying something small online- at least you would save yourself the embarassment of using it at a brick & mortar store if it's declined.

We also had cards with Zero balances. Ones that had always been paid off, and/or not used in some time. They also were cancelled by the creditors. This includes store cards, like best buy, etc. for me.
          Filed 10/11/08 - 341 11/23/08 - Discharged 1/26/09
2/19/09 Stipulation agreement reached w/trustee - Still awaiting Closed Status

All 26 of our cards were cancelled with 10 days of filing. Many of them had zero balances and hadn't been used in several years.
            Chapter 7 filed 10/21/2008
            341 - 11/26 went smooth NO ASSET
Took 115 days after 341 - But Finally DISCHARGED 3/25/09

We've got one that we have charged on 3-4 times (over $2K) since discharge. Survived so far, but it may yet be closed. We have paid well more than minimum payments and hope to pay it off within 3 months. Another one still shows as open and has a large availability - but have not tested it, so can't say. These were both zero balance at filing and had been for a few months.

However, also just got a new one at our new bank. Limit: $700. Originally this one was $500 limit and a $39 annual fee, but my husband called and got it changed to $700 and no fee. Have not used it yet, but probably will soon, for gas I think - just to get some "new" credit history going.

Has anyone had any dealing with gas cards like BP, Texaco, etc. We have them and they have 0 balance. Will they be cancelled as well?

We have Texaco and so far that made it thru. But our card is associated with our business (incorporated) but I am responsible for the debt.

I believe when you go to activate the card, they might do a brief credit check. If they don't, you might be okay.
