How much are you in debt?

When we filed last year (above-median) we were at $140k of unsecured debt, and successfully discharged it all.

Why do they even bother making a median to compare against if people are making more than the median and discharging it anyway?

Why don't they just go back to things prior to October 2005 and call it a day?

For my dad in credit cards alone it $150,000. That's not counting the $40,000 & $16,000 in business loans and also $7,000 to a dealership.

So in total...$213,000 give or take.

21K in credit card debt... I have a small home loan and car loan, but keeping both of those (hopefully.) I gross just around $66K, which I believe is why I received a presumption of abuse letter this past Saturday. Still in distress.

I want the trustee to come over to my house...my *luxurious* single wide...I want him to see my bedroom set, which I have had since I was 11. I want him to see my daughter's bedroom set, which was given to us. Then I'd like him to hear my story, about how I raised her alone...without any government assistance....and how I'm drowning in debt, but they are trying to make things difficult.

Provide your lawyer some pictures of your home, etc. so he/she can give them to the trustee. This might hel.

Let's see: 11k in leftover marital debt from former marriage+about 10k in consumer debt I rang up myself trying to pay for the marital home while it was on the market = 21k in consumer debt. PLUS I owe 285k in primary and secondary mortgages on the marital home. It's in foreclosure and will probably fetch 250k, I'm guessing. So 35k in home deficiency debt.

If I did that, they would think we're rich. Our pictures look super nice with the tile work we had done... but the thing is, when we foreclose, none of those tiles come with us!! But they certainly make the pictures look incredible, especially with the stainless steel appliances we have in the kitchen... which I am debating on taking with us when we leave.

Heh...I'd like the trustee to know how, when my dishwasher broke three years ago, that it took me a year before I could afford one. We did dishes by hand for a year. And, when I did buy one, it was a cheap one. ;)

That's what got us into the credit mess. The dishwasher that came with our house kept putting grit and dirt all over the dishes so we borrowed against our 2nd mortgage to buy new appliances. We have a well and it was putting bad water and destroying the appliances. We had to spend $2200 on a Culligan whole house water filter to stop it. Then we replaced the refrigerator because the ice maker wouldn't work.

I am not cheap and I don't like buying crap. I either buy something nice or I don't buy it at all. I don't like replacing things, so I like to buy the best right from the start so I can get 10-20 years usage out of it.

I'd rather have one good dishwasher to last for 20 years and spend $700 on it than to spend $300 on each dishwasher and replace it every 2-4 years.

I've learned the hard way that you don't save any money when buying cheap stuff up front. Been there, done that. I'm done with being cheap.

Yea, well....I paid cash for the cheaper dishwasher. I figured people did dishes by hand for years and it didn't kill them, and I didn't want to charge anything. It's a cheap version of a Maytag, and so far, it's been fine. Anyway... you sound a bit like me even so. Champagne taste??

You can't wash your hands in 140 degre water. The dish washer disinfects and everything. Years ago we did not have all the same germs and crap that we do now. Everyone I know talks about "not having time" all the time. Washing dishes is just another waste of time. I put all my dishes in the dishwasher and when it gets full, then I turn it on and be done with it. With my Bosch dishwasher, everything comes out spotless. Plus the Bosch unit I bought is the quietest on the market. If there is any ambient noise going on, you can't even tell that the unit is working. This unit was nearly $1200. I got it down to about $700 or so.

We survived the year, no fatalities or sicknesses. There are only two of us, so that helps. A Bosch is a great dishwasher, to be sure...the point is, I think we're all supposed to be learning that mantra my mom repeated to me over and over. "If you can't buy it and pay for it, then maybe you'd better get a different model." Most of us would love a Bosch dishwasher. I'd be willing to be most of us would have to put it on credit... I guess everything in moderation, right?

What they need to do is lower the price of everything to make things affordable so that credit is no longer needed.

I received this email the other day as a joke:
