    Lien on car title

Can a bank put a lien on a car they have no financial interest in??
I just sold a car that I have owned free and clear for 15 years and the new owner can not register it because there's a Bank of America lien on the title...?Any thoughts on what is going on? Looks like I have to call the bank and I haven't a clue where to begin..

You have to indebt that car some way. I can't come over to your house or driveway and copy your vin off the dash and lien you for no reason. Sounds fishy to me. Sounds also like a lawsuit my make you some money. 'Hub
If I knew it all, would I be here?? Hang in there = Retained attorney 8-06, Filed 12-28-07, Discharge 8-13-08, Finally CLOSED 11-3-09, 3-31-10 AP Dismissed, Informed by incompetent lawyer of CLOSED status, October 14, 2010.

Could be an old un-released lien. When I transferred one of my cars to my mom, I found there was an old "electronic" title in Florida on the car.

The car was long paid off and I had physical possession of the title!

This is simple and a 15 minute call found the answer for me.

Call the Title Section / Division of your State's Division of Motor Vehicles, Registry of Motor Vehicles, Department of Motor Vehicles and Highway Safety, or whatever they call it in your State.

Just tell them you need to check the status of the title.
