Safe to deposit money into a bank where I BK'd on credit product?

Now that I've filed my BK and have had my 341 meeting, I'm in the waiting phase. So as I'm doing my bills this evening I'm finding that I have a lot more money than I know what to do with (yes that is the most awesome feeling!).

In order to protect myself for the future I'd like to start putting some money away. I have a high yield savings account with Capital One. I also had one of their credit cards that I BK'd on.

Is it safe to put money into that account or should I just forget about it and open an ING account instead?

Get your money out of the CapOne account. Never a good idea to leave bank accounts in a bank that you filed on.

My attorney adviced us the same thing. Close that account and open a new bank account somewhere you don't owe/have bankrupt with.

Beware they do run credit checks though, fortunately this was before I had quite making payments on my cc's so though my score was low (due to high balances) it showed I was current on my bills so they let me open an account.

      Hope this helps, good luck!

don't have a deposit account with someone you owe money to! I work at a big bank and banks usually have the right to withdraw funds owed to them for a debtors account. It would be better to go elsewhere!

I'm joining the club of people telling you NOT to have an account at a Bank you BK'd on. Very bad idea. You probably wouldn't want to wake up, find no funds in your account, and have to fight to get them back. BK or not, banks you owe money to are not something to mess with.

OK - Attorney said to close BofA accounts as have everyone here.

I have left my Savings open - $0.20 in it - and my checking account open - $11.00+ in it.

Is this a problem or should I go ahead and close them? - jb

Close them. You do not want fees accruing - and then having the accounts reported to chexsystems post petition. Post petition debt does not get discharged. Sometimes fees accrue for all types of dumb reasons (like "dormant account fees", "low balance fees", etc. etc). Close it officially so you have a record that the account was in good standing when you closed it.

                Close it

I just made this post about a checking account we had. I'g go elsewhere if possible. In addition we had Wachovia drain an account also, AFTER our 341.

                  Close it!!!

Just echoing everyone else on this thread. Close out the account quickly! I had a savings and checking account with a credit union that we bk'd on and they emptied the checking account with the quickness. But there were unable to touch the share savings account, they can't touch without board approval.
